RBK to BAUER skates

Recommended Posts

Im new to this forum, and i know these questions have probably been asked time after time but any opinion would be appreciated.

I had to get new skates urgently so i decided to buy rbk 3ks, but within a week the insides were ripped around the eyelets and the tendon guard was bent (the bit at the back if thats what you call it). I was thinking of buying some bauer x60 skates or rbk 9ks.

I know 3k to x60 or 9ks is a bit of a jump but i feel that they would suit me as i play hockey around 9 hours a week. Do you think these skates would be good for me (I also take junior sizes so maybe they wouldnt be as stiff as senior boots).

Has anyone changed from rbk to bauers? Whats the difference...Ive heard bauer put you back on your heals a bit.

Thanks for any help B)

If you're back on your heels, you could incorporate a heel lift or change the pitch?

Also, you could go back and get a warranty pair of skates since you said the 3k went to sh!t in a week.

actually, i've skated in 9k's and currently own the x60's. the x60's definitely put you on your toes more.

How did your 3ks fit before they broke? In general RBK skates fit wider, flatter, higher volume feet while the Vapor line fit narrower, more pronounced arch, lower volume feet. Pitch-wise, RBK/CCM E-Blades are more neutral than Bauer Tuuks which put you more on your heels, but if you're skating 9 hours a week, you'll quickly adjust. I recommend that you go to a store and try on a bunch of different skates, don't go in with a preconceived notion of what you want.

You mentioned that you're in a JR size. How big are you? I'm 5'5" and 140lbs. My feet are somewhere in between a size 5.5 and 6.0, so I have experience with both JR and SR skates. I currently own a pair of non-pump RBK 8ks (top of the line from a couple of years back) JR and CCM U+ 09 (one model down from the Pro Reloaded) SR. The JR skates are significantly less stiff than the SR... If you're my size or bigger, you should probably be looking at upper end skates.

im 5' 2" and 112 lb and size 4 or 4.5. Im a girl aswell btw so it might take me longer to break in my skate but i think higher end skates would be ok if im skating 9 hours/week.

Before my rbk 3ks i had ccm vector 120(i think) and these were too big...senior size acctually and they broke in well. i had problems with around the top eyelet splitting in thoses too  The 3ks hug my ankle and they do seem to hurt the sole of my foot quite a bit since i got them.

Id rather go on my toes than heels i think. I tried on my friends bauers a while ago but i think the blades were flat cause she played goalie and used player skates. It felt like i was skating on figure skates cause i couldnt rock...i think its cause of the way she had her skates sharpened (isnt that called the rocker)

I think ill go try on some skates tonight and see what fits me best. Thanks for everyones help so far :D

X60 definitely put you more on your toes than the 9k. I've used both, if you have a narrow heel (like me) the X60 will fit better.
