Ultra Glide

Recommended Posts

I saw this bottle of oil called "Ultra Glide" and I thought I would bite the bullet and try it out. Supposedly when apply a thin layer of oil on the bottom of your skate blades it helps reduce friction and increase your gliding.

I was a bit skeptical, but honestly I did notice that it did help me with my gliding and I have to use less effort. In my opinion, its good for ice surfaces that are soft and watery (I have been playing at some rinks where the warm weather has affected the quality of ice).

The price is around the $5 CDN range so its reasonable. The only downside I would mention is that the film of oil seems to last only a few shifts. I am not going to keep on applying another layer of oil on my skates every 10-15 minutes.

I know there are oils and waxes that can be used for the last pass on a skate sharpening. They give a really smooth cut. The stuff I use at my store is called GustoGlide. I hadn't heard of any that you use at the rink before you skate. Is it a fairly new product??
