Opinions Needed, Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to purchase my first goalie set and I've narrowed down the list, but would like some thoughts and opinions on the items. I already looked through the Equipment Review Forum and it's greatly helped me narrow my list down.

The idea is for this to be a great set for Pick-Up Hockey and Beer League (D/E Level). I would like to keep my budget to under $1450 CDN before taxes. So if you make recommendations on other equipment, please keep that in mind.

Mask: Vaughn 7500 or a Eddy Eclipse

C/A: Bauer One55 or TPS Response 6

Pant: RBK Senior Goalie Pants or Bauer One55

Pads: Vaughn Velocity V3 7700 Pro Spec (Used) or Sherwood 9990x Pro or Bauer One75

Catcher & Blocker: Vaughn Velocity V3 7500 Int. (Used) or Sherwood 9990 Pro or Bauer One75

Skates: NBH Vapor XIX or NBH Vapor XIV or CCM Vector 4.0

Your opinions in this matter is greatly appreciated as well as any pointers you may have! :D

Thanks!

NOt sure of the prices you have on these and would have been nice to indicate in order to be able to provide advice of products at similar prices.

anyway

Helmet: Hakva (around 300$) most of the time

C/A: Simmons Matrix 3 or 994/995. Usually around 250$ or some Pro Level C/A, used. Simmons is considered Pro Level by the way and is quite cheap in price when purchased new.

Pants: It would be wise to try and find something better than what you have listed. If you can still find some Itech RX9 on close out, some used Vaughns etc, it would be better.

Pads: I would go with pro level pads as much as possible. Even used they should give you more bang for your buck with added protection

Gloves: Same as for pads. You are much better off with used Pro level gear

Skates: I had the Vapor XIX and they are not that bad. Not the most confortable skate but if they fit your foot, it should work out ok.

As for pointers: Get a neck guard and you may also want to get knee pads/guards. You are always better off buying used Pro level gear than brand new senior gear.

Personally, I'd stay far away from the NBH Vapor series goalie skates. I have 'Bauer' bumps thanks to my old XXX's. As everything is personal prefference, try to try everything on if possible.

The Vapor series has nothing to do with the Bauer bumps. They are called Haglund's bump and they are not brand specific so I the OP should disregard that comment.

See this topic on the "Bauer bumps" http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...showtopic=44051

Thanks for the help! I did a little more research and decided on the following..

Mask: Hackva 2608 w/Cat's Eye Cage and a Clear Shield

C/A: Simmons 995 Pro

Pant: Itech RX 9 Pro

Pad: Simmons UL5

Catcher: Simmons 995 Pro Series

Blocker: Simmons UL5

Skate: Graf 750 Pro

I'm really happy with what I got. Rich from Don Simmons was extremely helpful and I'm really glad I made the drive down to Fort Erie.

You've done great! I'm glad some of the stuff I suggested made it in your final list. I feel like I was somewhat helpful lol

Enjoy!!
