Graf 707 Tongue Loop

Ok so what's up with this thing? Is there some reason to lace through it or does it serve to hold an ankle guard in place? I just ignored it.

On another note: Hi! I trolled and searched this forum for a couple days on fit info for this skate before joining and found some good posts. Thanks. I've skated on 703's for years and while I love them I wanted the whole ankle flex thing from back in the day. 703R fits me perfectly and for the 707 I went narrow and it fit great except for the arch (my feet are fairly flat). Replaced the footbed with shockdoctors and voila! Just as good as my 703. Skated on them today for the first time and loved them. Had really good edge control and no problems. These had tuuk custom + mounted and coming from the cobra I thought it'd be sketchy but it took about 10min to get used to.

I actually cut the loop off my tongue. The tongue does have the ribbed area so it bends easier. I'm on my third pair of 707's and have nothing bad to say about them. amazing skates.
