Tour Skate Pricing

Recommended Posts

On a few sites, the new Tour skates are all on sale for about $100 off. Anyone know why new skates are already on sale? Is there a problem and they're trying to move them?

I think it is just a promo from Tour... Likely some type of cash-back to the vendor who sells it or something along those lines. I don't want to speculate...

I would guess that the price will go back to normal in January.

$100 off is pretty good. Top of the lines for mid4s. I'd give em a try if I had shop around me that carried them.

I would suggest Inline Warehouse. Free return shipping - no qustions asked. Also free 2-day shipping to you. You can 10% off through their member program too.

I honestly think the sale pricing the skates are at now are the most I would pay for the new line. I compared the ZX9 and Cobalt Q and thought the Q was better/equal to the ZX9 and it was only $206 with my IW discount...

Can't get into the look of the Qs. In person, they don't look as bad in pictures. I know, I know, it's not about looks...but I haven't heard much good feedback about boot breakdown in the Qs and Tabus. No way I'm spending money on boots that will break down after 6 months of playing 2 times a week. If I saw more feedback on the new Tours I'd seriously consider it, but I just haven't come across enough to make me think it's time to change. For now, I'm a Mission Man. Haha.

I totally do not blame you. I bought a pair of Boss SE's. I tried them on and even the EE width was too narrow in the toe-box for me. Otherwise an amazing skate. Heck, at $300 (on sale), I was actually considering buying a bair and tinkering with them in terms of punching the toe area, but still have not made a final decision. I stuck with Tour and actually down-graded from Tabu's to Cobalts.

I have not noticed any major downside of the Cobalts. The boot feels stiffer, but that is because they are new. I do foresee some boot/outsole seperation issues in the future on the Q's. The Tabu's had a nicer/beefier construction on the outsole. I think the liner on the Q's is better as well.

Skates are so dependant on the fit. Once you get a brand right, it is so hard to switch. I can switch between RBK/CCM helmets, countoured to loose gloves, grip to non-grip sticks no problem. No way I can transition from Tour at this point I think unless someone replicates every aspect of their boot fitment.

What do you think of the all 80 setup of the Tours compared to Mission hilo? Speed, mobility? Also, have you thought about an all 76 setup - I think that's possible but I wanted to talk to someone that may have tried it.

It's been a few years since my BlueMaxxs and Code1s. My feeling then, if I remember, was that I wasn't any faster or more mobile, but if anything I was sturdier. I feel like I'm a quicker player, tighter in turns, etc., in Missions.

I never got to skate on the Hi/Lo set-up (other than around the house). The pair of Boss SE's I bought I sent back since the fit was not right... Sorry...

I have tried a straight-76mm set-up with the Tour's though and did not notice a ton of difference between that and the straight-80mm. I thought I would use all-76 just as an experiment on a small surface that I play on. I found that turning was not as improved as the loss of speed, overall grip and wheel wear (I go through wheels fairly fast since I am 260lbs). I tried it for about a month and went back to 80's.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if 4mm would actually make a difference, and apparently it does not.

I wear a size 7 in Tour skates which used to be 76mm and is now 80mm. When I switched from my Code-1s (all 76mm) to Tabus (all 80mm) I felt a pretty big difference. I felt like my top end speed and stopping was a lot better on the 80s. While my turning and agility was better on the 76mm. I had a pair of Boss' in between the 2 and looking back I feel like it was the best of both worlds. Maybe I subconsciously bought into marketing but I felt a difference.

I heard the same as above from a kid I coached at State Wars... He moved up sizes though which took him from the 76mm frame to the 80mm frame... The "wheelbase" and overall length of the 80mm set-up was drastically longer than that of his old skates. The wheels extended away from the toecap and heel quite a bit more than his old 76mm-framed skates. He claimed that his stride, push off and stability were alot different,

I think it is very different when dealing with a larger size. You are essentually putting smaller wheels on a frame designed for larger ones... You are not changing the overall length more than the 2mm each direction for the wheel.
