Bodylastics

Before I start on this subject, just to let everybody know that I'm not a reseller, I don't work for the company in any way shape or form. I'm just a regular user that happens to think that it is a very good product to use.

I've been wanting to write a little something on that subject for a bit but just kept pushing it off.

Just a quick history of how I came to buy, but more specifically use these regularly. I've been working out on and for most of my adult life. On the off years I'd gain weight and on the years I worked out I usually managed to be in good shape. I used to work out with my friend at his place back in 2008 but our daily routine just made it impossible for me to want to continue as he has kids and could only start working out around 7 PM at which point I was too tired to even bother on top of not being able to sleep till 11pm or later so I stopped working out. Later that year, I purchased a set of Bodylastics after reading a couple of reviews online. I wanted to start working out again but finally only worked about a week or so before getting back to the habit of sitting on my ass in front of the TV and doing nothing. Sure I played hockey a couple of times a week but that wasn't enough to keep me in shape, far from it.

Fast forward to 2010 where after almost two years of nagging, I went to see Sleep Apnea specialists in order to be tested. I was suffering from Extreme Sleep Apnea and ended up with a CPAP machine. At the time I weighed 327 pounds or so. I gained about 20 pounds over the course of the summer after cutting the tip of my finger with a mitter saw. The finger is alive and kicking now but that summer of not being able to do anything but eat and sleep put an even bigger toll on my health, again I should add. My doctor then called me to see me as he had approved the prescription of a CPAP machine without seeing me and now he wanted to see me. The last time I saw him I was weighing 270... I was now at 327. It never really bothered me as I always considered myself in "good" shape for my size and never had any life threatening diseases or anything. But this time though, I found out that I was suffering from Hypertension. That was November 2010. He wanted to put me on meds and I asked for an alternative which he replied to that I had to lose weight or he was going to put me on meds.

I proceeded to start eating better and by January I had lost about 10 pounds or so and was already feeling better. Another visit to the doctor revealed that my blood pressure had gone down significantly but was still too high.

Now on to the review of the product

The day after I visited my doctor the second time, I decided to dust off my Bodylastics and the treadmill and start working out again. I must say that after two and a half month of using them intensively, they have not let me down. Sure they take some getting used to as compared to barbell/dumbbells but IMO they are as efficient. In only two months I have seen a difference muscle and strength wise. I think that anybody who has worked out or presently works out is aware of resistance bands and may be wondering what is so special about the Bodylastics.

It's the amount of resistance that is so special about these. You can find resistance bands everywhere but they usually range from a couple of pounds to maybe 15 if you are lucky and you can only really use one band at a time. With the Bodylastics they have bands ranging from 3 to 30 pounds. But on top of that, the handles are separate from the band itself and all the bands have easy clips so you can use more than one band per handle and up the resistance per arm. This is what makes the Bodylastics special IMO.

It also comes with door anchors in order to attach your bands to for different exercises. With a little bit of, or a lot of imagination, you can probably recreate most gym exercises, but like I said, you sometimes need a bit of imagination.

My only beef with the system is for doing squats/lunges. Our legs are usually much stronger than our upper body so that does create some problems when using the bands to do squats as you need to stretch the bands almost shoulder high in order to have a stretch for the full exercise movement. That would be pretty much the only problem I can see with the bands for now along with needing some imagination, although they do come with a manual and a limited or unlimited subscription to their “strength band University” which is not as cheesy as it sounds ;-).

I’ve been a gym rat right up until I met my wife to be 12 years ago and had a home gym going at my friends place at one time so I feel that have a pretty good idea about the strengths and weaknesses of all of these.

I really just wanted to write about these because I know that there are people out there who would like to workout and either don’t have much time, the will or the money to join a gym. Some just don’t like going to a gym for different reasons, be it having to wait for a station, weights, treadmill or whatever. Some people just don’t have the room to buy a Bowflex or a Weider Home Gym type of thing, or a bench and tons of weight to go with a little Home Gym. So for those who wish there was a “better” alternative, the Bodylastics could just be it. All you need is a door frame and some will and you’re good to go.

By the way, don’t be fooled with the infomercial like website if you happen to visit their website. It looks goofy and perhaps pretentious to an extent but it works, at least for me and I’m sure it would work for most out there and they are fairly inexpensive ranging from 40 something bucks for a small kit to a $120 for the big family kit which I just purchased in addition of the Terell Owens kit I already owned in order to give me versatility as it gave me doubles of everything which was a nice addition. IMO, a great product.

I been using them for years, seriously awesome product.

I first got them for travel and I honestly use them 4 times a week.

Ever since I switched to strictly resistance bands, I never feel overly sore, yet I feel "pumped" all the time. I also use perfect push up and do a ton of planks.

Unlike traditional free weights, resistance bands have positive and negative resistance throughout the entire rep.

Best investment I ever made.

Thanks for that link. I believe I got that link when I activated my "strenghtbanduniversity" account but haven't visited the site yet. I recently bought a bench which is working out great too... as long as you have some imagination ;-)

Thank you for the detailed write up and congrats on being dedicated to making yourself healthier. I have heard good things about these before but I am going to give them another serious look. I am on my own weight loss routine that is going pretty well but I haven't incorporated enough exercise into it. This may be just the ticket.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Welpe and good luck to you too in your own endeavour! You should definitly give it a try. It won't set you back much if you don't like it but chances are that if you give it a good try you will like it. I've been trying different new exercises this past weekend and love them. Didn't think much of them until I tried them.

Good luck
