Trapper Rip

Recommended Posts

I am having a minor (I Hope) problem with my trapper. As you can see in the pictures below, the leather has ripped below the lace hole, I don't know how to fix it and I was hoping to find some pointers on what to do, any info would be greatly appreciated

Superglue or shoe goo (if they still make that stuff), or JB Weld, if you're so inclined. Now that it has ripped, whatever tension was there has been released, and you just need to prevent it from ripping more.

If aesthetics are of concern, you can always have it sent for repair, or repair it yourself. You'll need some waxed nylon string, and a curved upholstery needle.

Personally, I'd go with the superglue.

There are a few ways to fix that but none quite as good as the handyman's (other) secret weapon, liquid duct-tape, also known as Automotive GOOP.

For a quick fix, add the goop right on top of the tear and let it set.

For something more aesthetically pleasing, take the lacing off that edge of the glove and apply a patch of white fabric (Jenpro, Naugahyde hell even some white vinyl) inside the glove and goop it into place.

For a solution even more substantial than that, once the lacing is gone, sew a patch onto the inside of the tear and use a leather punch to add a new hole below the grommete for the lacing to go through.

My $0.02.
