Help finding skates

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I haven't posted here in a while and am not up to date on the newer skates and how they fit. I'm going to be helping my friend find some new skates at a local store I used to work at and want some help from someone that has a better knowledge of how all the current skates fit.

He is currently in RBK 8k's (early year model with grey side panels & no pump). He's wearing a 10E. The forefoot fits well, but he's got way to much space around his ankles.

The problem we are going to have when we are fitted at our local store. . . is that they don't normally carry wide skates.

Right away I think, he'll be able to fit in the current reebok line well since it's a very similar fit, and the pump will make up for his low volume ankles.

If he is in a 10E in RBK, will that be comparable to a 10D in the current CCM lineup? I am hoping that the ccm's, with the U+foam, can mold well around his low volume ankles.

He never had luck with bauer & considering he is in a wide rbk skate(to compensate for his wide forefoot) I don't think he'll do well in vapors. . . and I worry supremes are going to be to wide in the ankle area also

Any help would be appreciated.

And please don't give me the common response of "go try them on" We are planning on doing that, but our issue is that our store doesn't carry wide skates. And his only wide area of his foot is his forefoot. He has a low volume foot for the most part, regular heel, and regular ankles.

If he was in the E in the Reebok, chances are he'd be an E in the CCM too. If you want to take advantage of the quality of the U Foam, I'd suggest getting either the 10s, 12s or CLs, as the quality drops off after that. The foam is indeed extremely heat mouldable, perhaps the best on the market at the moment.

You could have him try a Bauer FlexLite, they have a heel similar to the Vapor, but have a wide fore foot. If the Flexlite are still tight around the toes, he could try it in an E.
