HackeyNoob 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 I'm having a lot of fun playing roller hockey right now but unfortunately have a hard time practicing due to the location of my rink/work schedule. I'm looking for a decent priced pair of skates I could practice outdoors with (concrete/blacktop). I really don't feel like swapping my wheels/damaging my indoor boot but want to at least be comfortable in whatever I buy. Any recommendations would be awesome but I'd prefer to keep it under $120.00. Thanks
MDE3 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Gear makes some cheap skates that I have seen a lot of good reviews from..under $70.00..there are people that I know who have been using them for 3 years...and still happy with them..plus playing 3 times a week. stevoc 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Lower end Mission skates work nicely. I have some 2004 Mission R's that have been going for over a year and still trucking.
HackeyNoob 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2004 It's pretty much come down to either the Mission R (orange wheels) 89.99 at local sportmart or the 2003 Mission RL's at epuck for 84.99. I'll probably just go with the R's. How do the wheels hold up? Thanks!
stevoc 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2004 Depends on the surface. I skate mostly on tennis courts and as long as the wheels are rotated regularly, they will last for a while. You're better off going with a wheel designed for outdoor use, however. (labeda asphalt or kozak outdoors)

stevoc 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Go with the RL's...A better constructed boot.... The only thing I didn't like about my R's were the chassis (it was two piece, same as the RL's) I replaced them with a penetrator chassis and love them. I just think the R's look better because of the color (all black) as compared to the RL's (blue, white, black w/ blue chassis)Just my opinion.

I have the Mission R's too and yes I do love the black color of the boot and chassis. I have the 2002 or 2003 version I think (the one with the stock yellow Labeda Shooter wheels). I don't really like the version that came out a year later with the orange wheels. Looks like it's Halloween.

The 2004 R's come with orange wheels. Here's a review I wrote for londonskaters.com last year regarding these skates.Mission R reviewAnd here are a few images of my R's w/ penetrator chassis installed.
