RussianDangler15 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2012 This is more of just a random curiosity I had the other day and I don't even play goalie. Do companies offer custom goalie skates? If so what sort of customization can be done beyond the usual size measurments?
Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted February 27, 2012 Yes they're offered, and you can do pretty much whatever you can do with a player boot: lasting, materials, construction, reinforcement, part substitution, etc.The construction of goalie boots usually differs in a couple of major respects - the outsole is less significant because of the cowling, the shape and design of the area around the Achilles is generally different - but beyond that, whatever you want. Because cowlings can be drilled to fit any hole-pattern, it's also relatively unproblematic (though not 'easy' in any sense) to put whatever boots you want into whatever cowlings. For example, there are an enormous number of pros currently using the Bauer One60 cowlings (technically a member of the Vertexx cowling line, though not branded as such since it doesn't have the medial forefoot cut-out) with whatever boots they like.
