Best modern skates for wide wide feet (photo included)

Recommended Posts

Thats my foot in my avatar.... Wide across the toes all 5 2/5 iches of it, Im about an 10.5-11 in length, just wonder if anyone can point me to a modern skate that might fit me without foot pain? anyone else have stompers like mine? Could anyone give me a description of my foot that I could use to give to the guys at online hockey shops? I wear a 12 EEEE sports shoe, Ive had mild sucess in bauer supremes but nothing great. Im in graf 709's at the moment but they are heavy and the toe cap pushes on my big toe... any ideas?

Wow, your foot sounds almost exactly like mine. I have a pair of custom CCM U+ CL's in a 10 3/4" left foot, 3E, and a 11 1/4" right foot, also 3E.

They fit me fine, I just don't like them coming from a Bauer Vapor and have stopped using them. I think after years of using a skate that is tight to my foot, finding something that "fits" my foot feels awkward and I just couldn't get used to them. I prefer a really tight fit.

That said, I'm picky as hell, but you may want to look into that particular model (or the U+ line) as they do fit a wide foot pretty well, even in the retail 2E.

Too right. Where did you get the 3E from, were they custom made? Dont suppose you have another pair floating around you would part with? I have worn 2E's before in the past but its been a right squeeze. In my old one90's the heel was too narrow (fore foot and toe box was ok), RBK 9k's were too shallow (width a little narrow, toe box too small), S15's in 2E too narrow (being carbon fibre there was no give either) synergy 1500c's too narrow around the toe box and sides too stiff around for foot, bauer flex lite 4.0 too heavy, graf 709 wide, even with the +size toe cap the toe cap is too small, and they are heavy - I have just installed a pair of Lightspeed 2 holders on them and im hoping that the neutral pitch will stop my toes sliding into the toe cap. I felt with the cobra holders, i was leaning forward and sliding forward in the boots alittle, enough then after the first 15 minutes I would start getting pain. first 15 minutes are great though. Also they are a shitload lighter then the cobra's, even carrying the skates around now I cant believe how light they feel. Im not on the ice until Wednesday night now, im abit worried, my first ice season on tuuks in 2 years against some 40-50 year old ex-junior A to minor A Canadians and Americans who spare no shred of mercy for us Aussies.

I have an EEE forefoot as well as a very deep foot. Since I was 12 all my skates have caused me moderate to severe pain. The only off the shelf skates I was able to wear comfortably were the Kor Shift 1 and Shift 2s, due to their extreme moldability when baked. If that's actually a word.

I would highly recommend a pair of customs. If cost is an issue I'd watch eBay for a pair of Kors. They show up now and then. The skate manufacturers and the stores just don't keep skates for feet like ours on the shelf. The numbers aren't there to be profitable.

My vote is for customs as well.

Sounds like you are located in Australia? so if that's the case i'm sure finding a store/bauer rep might be tough. So if customs are not an option and online purchase is the only way, I would agree with sheffy and wait for the Bauer Nexus 1000 because Bauer makes a great skate and they will be a wider and deeper fit. I would defer to those members on here more in the know on skates for what size to order and how they should feel etc before you bake and skate and not be able to return them.

If you don't want to spend the money on customs, the upcoming Nexus line from Bauer will be a pretty wide skate, wider than the Vapor or Supreme line and more along the lines of the Flexlite line. You could probably find some Flexlites out there for very cheap right now, too......if you need skates now.
