Question on weight of Bauer skates

Recommended Posts

hi guys. couple quick questions for you. i bought bauer vapor x6.0 almost a year ago from my local hockey store, but they were just too small. rebaked 2x, punched out the heels, stretched, etc. tried to live with it but in the end, just too painful.

so i went back this weekend looking to buy a new pair to replace them. LHS shocked me and said they'd take them back and let me swap out for a brand new pair, free of charge. really did not walk in there trying to get a free pair of skates, was willing to buy a new set right there, but they insisted. (and so i insisted on buying some additional gear i wasn't planning on buying that day, but needed anyhow, figured that was only fair). customer for life there now.

anyhow, 2 quick questions about skate weight. they gave me vapor x7.0 instead, since they were running a deal on them. guy said they were lighter than x6.0, which turns out not to be the case. 820 grams for x7.0 vs 786 grams for x6.0, per hockeymonkey.com big whoop, i'm not complaining. but curious. what does 46 grams mean in terms of skating? noticeable at all? its about 6% heavier.. havent had a chance to try them out yet

second question on skate weight - my previous skates were bauer supreme 5000 from back in 1997 or so. i've searched trying to find out the weight on those skates and can't find anything. anyone know? just a curiosity question, want to know the diff. between these and the x7.0 (and x6.0).

thanks folks!

Weight in that range is negligible, you won't notice it. I don't necessarily blame the guy for saying the 7.0s were lighter, that's how it often goes as you move up.

Not much difference between the two. Mainly a slight stiffness upgrade (which you might not even notice/need depending on your skill/frequency of play), different tongue and liner.
