Does anyone use the Hockey Intelligym program?

Recommended Posts

I can't comment on the program itself... but please allow me to vent for a second. So USA Hockey spends money that comes from all of us USA hockey registered players/coaches to develop a cognitive computer program to train hockey sense. They then provide it to all of the NTDP kids for free to be test guinea pigs... the NTDP kids who already play hockey for free thanks to the money collected from us members. Then USA Hockey packages it all up and starts selling it to all of us members for the monthly fee of $40.

So all of us USA hockey memebers helped finance the program, but then have to shell out $40 a month per player to use it... doesn't seem quite right, does it?

Understand your frustration, but I don't think USA hockey paid to develop the program. It's my understanding that the program was actually developed by a 3rd party company (who I believe originally developed it for fighter pilots). They then partnered with USA hockey to adapt it for hockey, and have been looking into adapting it to other sports.

I use HIG, have been for about a year. I do think it helps with some little things like angles of pucks off boards, and finding "space". It becomes pretty hard at the higher levels. There have been times in real games where I think "my god I wished he would play some HIG so he would know I was wide open all alone in space"...but maybe that's something players can gain on ice as well. I'm a science teacher, so when they say they use it on fighter pilots to develop spatial awareness I pay more attention to it than if they just said...hey this is a fun game.

I've been using it for a few months know and I definitely noticed a positive change in my game. Mind you it could all be in my head and the confidence I have is making me a better player on its on. I would reccomend t, but the only frustrating part is that sometimes I know what I want my player circle to do, but have trouble with the keyboard commands. Not a huge issue but irritating nonetheless. Overall would reccomend you at least give it a try.

EA Sports NHL13 accomplishes the same thing in a different way. You can learn a lot about the game from playing it in an overhead view.

I've started using it. We'll see if it helps. I agree that the control is a bit difficult. Frustrating to see what you want to do and not be able to execute.

So, it is just like playing hockey.
