Skates with Vapor like heel lock but Supreme forefoot and instep?

Recommended Posts

It's about time for new skates, I originally skated in Vapor x:15's but they caused some pain in my instep, so I switched to Supreme one60s. They're much more comfy up front, but I've recently been concentrating on skating with more knee bend and forward flex in my ankle area, as a result I'm noticing the heel lock isn't as tight as Id like it to be.

When I put the vapors back on I feel the difference in the heel lock and it feels great, are there any skates out there with the forefoot and instep of a supreme but the heel lock of the vapor? Should I just go back to vapors and not tie the forefoot as tight?

I know the right thing to do is go to a good shop to get fitted, but I'm in NYC with no car (just public transit) so it's not exactly easy to accomplish.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think there are a few things to look into with heel lock..

For one thing I noticed that within Bauer's sub models (Vapor,Supreme,Nexus) you will get a slightly different heel shape/fit for each model (I.E. X15,X30,X40,etc...) with in each model line (I.E. Vapor).

For example, the Nexus 1000 has a "deep V" ankle and the Nexus 800 has "anatomical heel/ankle support", so same model line, but different fit based on the series.

Also, fitting is huge; I know you mentioned its difficult to get to a store and try stuff on but really what it comes down to is trying every skate on to see what offers the best fit. There are so many different variations between skates that you need to get your feet in them and work through what works best.

Even if you get your foot measured (Length, width, instep, heel shape/width) its still hard to buy online...

For example, I measured my feet using Bauer measuring stick and most of that was thrown out the door after I started trying on each of their models. When I first started, Bauer measuring stick said that I could be in a 7.5-8 in a wide width. However, I ended up in a 7 wide in a Nexus 800, the 7.5 was huge, same in the Supreme line.

Also don't assume that if you are a size 9 in a Vapor X15, that you will be size 9 in a Vapor APX.

Sorry no real answers just info to chew on.

how bad do you need skates? because from when i first tried them on the new make skates have a similar feel in which you are looking for and with the new rbz skates with the apparently super tack feeling this year is going to be interesting with new skates
