Bauer Skates - Big Price Jump?

Recommended Posts

I just started playing hockey and am ready to upgrade from the used skates I bought about 6 months ago. I want to get good skates that will be comfortable and last a while. There seems to be a big jump in prices from the Vapor 60 to the 70 as well as Supreme One.6 to One.7 and Nexus 400 to 600. Right now I think I'm going to get one of the two Supremes, but want to know if it's worth it to bump up to the One.7.

HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Get what fits your feet best. Then consider your weight, position, style of play, etc....

The difference in stiffness between the One.6 and higher is HUGE. If you play beer league and weigh 140, they might be ok. If u r an adult size/weight, they flex like flip flops. Every guy I have seen in them bought them because they were cheap and then realized it was a mistake. Skates for recreational players last a long time, consider the investment you are making over the course of the time you will be using the skate.

Example:

Pair A: $250

Pair B: $450

Difference: $200

If you play once a week, let's say 40 times a year, for 3.5 years, although skates can last longer than that, it's the equivalent of $1.45 per skate between skate A and skate B.

How much do sticks cost? What do ice time or league fees cost? Do you really want to skimp on what amounts to the most important piece of equipment you will use when you play hockey???
