older reebok skates fit

i was thinking about picking up a pair of these for my son.

he has worn easton in an E, grew out of the 2005 smu synthisis..(which was perfect) and then i bought him some 2004 z air comps. but this upgraded skate is just too stiff for him.

was thinking about getting him a <2009 reebok pair...i want to buy the 5/6k pump model because i want him to have a softer skate.

does anybody know how wide these older reeboks run? do you think he get away w/ wearing a D or should i opt for the E once again?
