Ball Hockey Stick

Recommended Posts

Not sure where this should go so feel free to move it.

I play a lot of ball hockey at work, in leagues, and rec stuff. I'm currently using a SHer-Wood T50, 90 flex, PP26 curve (modified to close the toe). I'm thinking of dropping down to an intermediate stick for ball hockey so that I can get a little more flex. I cut my sticks pretty short considering i'm 6' tall and 195 pounds. With my current stick i've been clocked at 82mph shooting an orange hockey ball.

Just curious on thoughts for ball hockey sticks. What are you guys using? Does flex make that big a difference with a ball as opposed to a puck?

It depends on the surface.

I actually play in more ball hockey leagues than I do ice. That said, if I'm outdoors on concrete or black top, I use an old Warrior Diablo shaft (100 Flex) with Reebok ABS P38 patterned blades. I feel on concrete or blacktop, I like the stiffer flex even though I don't think flex matters that much outdoors.

When I play on sportcourt or a DEK surface, I use my Warrior AX1 that I use for ice (85 flex). It's a little bit longer because I'm not skates, but I'm only 5'8" so it's not that dramatic of a difference. With the sportcourt or dek surface, I feel the flex is more active so I prefer the 85 over the 100.

After tonight's skate i'm really thinking of cutting my Miken down and using it for ball hockey. It's a pretty stiff stick but it's super light. I've been in a scoring slump since switching so i'm ready to change something up. LOL
