Homemade Shooter Tutor

Hey, has anyone ever tried to make their own shooter tutor? I love the design of the CCM Carey Price shooter tutor, but am hesitant to buy it since all the reviews for it have been negative due to the straps breaking during use. Anyone have any recommendations for materials to use? It needs to be able to withstand shots with ice pucks (i also shoot weighted pucks). My plan is cut out the design and then punch holes and use grommets at the attachment points an the tie it to the net with some 550 cord, should I also reinforce the edges and if so, how? Any help would be great
