Moore on more or More on Moore

Recommended Posts

Cunndies You stole the words out of my mouth

People keep complaining that Steve Moore is a sucky player who is just suing everyone for money. I am not saying that I agree with Moore’s decision to sue that many parties, but to say Steve Moore is a bad player and would never amount to anything and only wants money he would never own is flat out ignorant. Lets look at some facts….

In Naslund’s first year in the NHL 93-94 with Pittsburgh, he played 71 games with 4G 7A. In Moore’s Rookie year (which was ended early) he played 57 games with 5G and 7A. Very similar stats! Naslund even did worse his second year and did not break out until his third season. All I am saying is that if Naslund had been taken out his rookie year, these people would be saying the same thing (bad, money hungry, sucky player) about one of the best in the game right now. I have never believed that the courts have a place in our game. We accept an inherent risk to injury when we step on the ice and suing over on ice incidents is immoral. I believed all of that until I saw what Bertuzzi did, and now I don’t know where I stand. Saying Moore is a Minor leaguer and will amount to nothing is ridiculous when he was not given, and will probably not be given, the chance to break out like Naslund did….We don’t know.

Think about it, most of us don’t get paid for playing…medical cost…rehabilitation…lost income…family and personal agony….if it happened to you in your environment, would you sue????

Lets say you and I show up to the same drop in session, and during the course of the game I viciously attack you for a perceived wrong. Now you have a broken neck, you need serious medical assistance, initial care, follow up, rehabilitation during which time you cannot work due to your medical difficulites..... I'm sure you see where this is going. Now would you just say "well, thats just part of the game and I took the risk when I decided to play"? Or would you call the police, file assault charges and sue for damages?

This is not one player suing another because of an injury that resulted in a race for the puck to negate an icing call.

Anyone who defends Todd Bertuzzi, or believes Steve Moore is wrong should go and tell that directly to Steve Moore and his family.

I think you misunderstood me. I believe Steve Moore is right for what he is doing. I in no way side with Bertuzzi. That was my point that if you came up to me and attacked me with intent to injure you should be held liable.

On a tangent; The courts in most cases do not belong on the ice. In the most extreme circumstances they are warranted, but that can quickly become taken advantage of. Where do you draw the line? If we can see anything as a trend in this world, it is that the bar keeps getting lower and lower. Most people do file frivolous law suits that waist time and money. I can just see the day that I check someone; they are injured, and in return sue me for playing the game.

But to clarify on my previous statement, I used to believe that the courts did not belong in the NHL, UNTIL I saw what that coward did to Moore. I think the courts will sort out what parties should and should not be involved in the suit.

Modo22, I understood your point, I was just making a general point after reading so much BS in the other thread.

For the most part the rule "what happens on the ice, stays on the ice" will remain the unwritten rule, and it will remain rare to see the law stick its nose into a sport where frontier justice has always been the status quo.
