Red Star E-Frames

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of Mission Flyweights ice skate (from 2002) that are size 10.5. I'm a shoe size 10.5 and fit easton size 8.5's.

I want to convert my mission flyweights over to ice and have settled on the Red Star E frames. However, I don't know which size of chassis to put on it.

According to InlineWarehouse their chart is as follows.

Small 6 - 8

Medium 8.5 - 9.5

Large 10 & up

I emailed them, and they said pick the large. However, My mission flyweights are the same fit as my eastons.

should i get a medium or large chassis?

thanks

Mission skates typically fit 1 - 1.5 sizes smaller than other skates, so a size 10.5 Mission would be a 9 - 9.5 in a Tour, CCM, Bauer etc. and probably an 8.5 in a Nike.

That would indicate a medium.

I disagree that mission's fit smaller, I believe they are more true to size. At least that is my experience. In fact, I wear a 9 shoe but a 9.5 in my mission d1c's and d2c's because my toes were just too cramped in the 9's.

I'd say large.

B) That's what's referred to as fitting "smaller"...the Missions typically fit shoe size or as in your case you had to even go up a half size. If you were in a Nike HiHo, you would probably be wearing a size 7 skate.

When the skate size(number) is lower than your shoe size, it is referred to as fitting "larger", meaning the skate boot fits a larger size than it's number would indicate compared to a shoe size. When the skate boot size is the same as shoe size or larger, the skate fits "smaller".

Hence a Mission 9.5 would be like a CCM size 8, or maybe an 8.5

I had the reverse happen. someone recommended a small chassis for a size 8 Nike HiHo because the did not realize how "large" the Nike's actually fit. It really needed a medium, because the skate fit so "large"...same as a size 9 in CCM, Graf, Nexed, Bauer etc., and about the same as a 10 or 10.5 in a Mission.

Alex..I know this all sounds confusing...simple solution....measure the length of your boot sole, and call the supplier with that info...from there he should be able to tell you exactly what chassis size you need.

I put a pair of Red Star small frames on Easton 8.0 Z Air Comps. According to most charts, they should only be put on size 7.5 or lower skates. I did this figuring smaller frame, smaller turning radius. I was sort of right. Turning was better, but speed was cut too. I didn't like that. It also changed the feeling, as the center of gravity was shifted back more, so it felt weird compared to the size medium that I had on them previously. I got used to it. I also have a size medium on 9.0 Missions. Love them. I'd advise you to go something like this on ANY skate:

5-7.5 Small

8-9.5 Medium

10-Above Large

That should give you good speed and fine turning.

I also must say, I am EXTREMELY happy with my Red Star Eframes. They are light, and very durable. I've had one pair for almost two years now, and have no major signs of damages. I could just be very lucky. Whatever the case, I highly recommend them.

That chart will NOT work for Nike's..they fit about 2 sizes different than Missions...ie a size 10 Mission would be about equal to a size 8 Nike HiHo boot.
