  1. I don't normally show stuff off, but I'm pretty proud of my Caps equipment sale haul this year:

    photo1sp.th.jpg

-New Winter Classic CCM U+ CL gloves (impulse buy, probably need to sell them)

    -Jason Arnott Easton E-Pro gloves

    -Used L RBK Socks

    -RBK Edge Practice jersey

    Fun sale this year!

  2. Okay, I get that, but let me ask a different way...If I have a relatively normal foot, there might be several skate models that might fit me. What if I don't like them. How do you know that I am not just saying that so I can go buy online?

I am not saying that I don;t feel for the shop owners, believe me. I just don't know how the fee is really enforceable? I guess that is what I am politely wondering.

Interesting question, but the fee is enforceable by the employees refusing to measure/fit you unless/until you pay the $20 fee. That's perfectly within their rights.

This is something that is somewhat standard in the golf industry. Not necessarily for just hitting a demo driver or something like that, but pro shops routinely charge fees to go through the full iron-fitting process. The fee is almost always applied as a credit toward your purchase, if you choose to buy at the shop.

  3. Thanks guys. Don't know if I should put the price up here, but you can easily calculate it from PSHG's website since I just used their pull-down menus.

The gloves are 14" - I thought the same thing too, so I put them next to my Creepers and Bauer 4-rolls. They're the same length but the cuff is longer, which leaves the rest of the glove a little bit smaller. It fits my hand really well... which makes me wonder if it'll fit others. I'm swimming around in most every hockey glove... especially the Creepers. The fingers are just huge in volume.

I find that for me, the Easton hand is just as snug as my Bauer 4-roll. The fingers are a little tighter in the 4-rolls.

aarias19 or anyone else who has EQ5c's: any chance you could weigh one of the gloves or comment on their weight compared to the EQ5 retail model?

  4. I think I've finally found a setup that I will stick with for a while:

    Helmet: Nike/Bauer 5500

    Visor: Oakley Straight (Clear)

    Shoulders: ITech TechLite 655

Elbows: RBK 8k Pro (with slash guards cut off)

    Pants: CCM Supra HP220

Shins: Jofa 5090 (pro stock, thigh guards cut off)

Skates: Bauer X:60 (Sens pro stock)

    Gloves: TPS R8 Response Pro

    Stick: Bauer X:60 65 flex 92

  5. Looks like Sharpie to me just because you can still see the RBK underneath it...

A lot of guys use RIT dye, or a similar product, on their holders. RIT dye has a pretty big following with LAX players who dye their sticks. I think there is a thread on here somewhere with a tutorial and the results are pretty good. Not saying your job doesn't, but if you ever need to reapply, I'd recommend RIT.

  6. Tried out the 100/50 grind at stick-n-puck this morning. Definitely noticed improvement in my first few strides as well as my glide. Edges too a bit of getting used to and a couple of times I think I felt some slippage in the rear part of the blade. Nevertheless, I was pretty impressed. Stopping was a little weird--I didn't have a whole lot of confidence in the bite on my back foot. I found myself relying on the inside edge of my front foot, if that makes sense. This will probably improve with time. I may bump up to the 100/75 to see if I can get rid of the slippage though.

  7. Tried FBV at 90/75 for the first time this weekend. It was quite an eye opener to say the least. I've messed around with numerous different hollows in the past and either found that the edges were too sharp and 'diggy' for me, or too dull and 'slippy'. I used to use a 1/2" cut and would hate it for the first 1-2 outings, then love it for the next 10 or so. With 5/8" and 3/4", I found that the edge just didn't grab enough for me when I went to accelerate. With FBV I found a nice dig in my strides right off the bat, transitioned from edge to edge really quickly, and the most amazing difference was when I went to stop -- felt very smooth and effortless and very easy to control both inside and outside skates (like stopping on skis). Hopefully the edge is comparably durable to ROH, but I realize I'm a bit of an exception when it comes to going 10-12 outings per sharpening.

Now I'm admittedly not a very high level player, but something as simple as this has been able to make me feel more confident and comfortable with my skating and has allowed to me concentrate more on improving other aspects of my game.

Reading this makes me want to try FBV out. Interesting thoughts on stopping, though, because several guys on my team (novice beer league) have just switched to FBV and are saying they feel faster, but are complaining about not being able to stop. Did you find you needed to change your technique at all?
