    Nice pics, Gordon!

Was thinking about you the other day - hope all's well!

Hey JR, its been a while. I hope your thinking something good about me ?

I can't really say everything is good with me, but I will say one thing that absolutely made my year. The Leafs winning the Auston Matthews sweepstakes. Its funny, they did a story about last years and this years lottery sweepstakes. When it came down to the last ball being pulled in both years, Toronto had the best odds of winning the Conner McDavid sweepstakes. I think given the combinations, Toronto had a 4 out 11 chance, while Edmonton had 1 out 11 chance.  This year it was the opposite with the Oilers with the best chance of winning the Conner McDavid sweepstakes based on only 1 last ball left. Toronto had the worst odds. I was very fearful the Leafs were going to get the short straw again.

I think that's exactly it. PK is high risk, high reward and Weber is low risk. Unfortunately, it's also comparatively low reward as well. He has a cannon from the point, but isn't all that close to PK in any other aspect of the game.

isn't Weber bigger and stronger than PK in terms of size ( clearing out the opposition in front of the crease) ?

    6'4" and 236 lbs  vs  6' and 210 lbs

Isn't Anderson in more or less the same position Bernier was when he came over?

kind of sounds like it. Bernier had pretty good numbers with LA Kings before getting trading.

We shall see, but from my experience, these types of trades seldom pan out the way you hope. Ie. Cory Schneider from Vancover to New Jersey.

and i think that may be shorter term than ever. Weber will have to get used to playing with an alright, but aging and nowhere near as effective D partner in Markov now, vs having Suter or Josi back on the blue line with him. Nashvilles D is going to be scary and for years to come. I really think montreal could have asked and gotten more in return than they did this deal, hell not even any picks or recent draftees.

Thinking more about the contract status of both of these players I think its about even, can't really squeeze much more in terms of drafts/assets. Both players have issues and conditions. Both players have huge contracts so its hard to find another trading partner to take on that salary/term.  For Montreal, I really think they are only going to keep Weber for 4-5 years max. His contract runs for another 10 years which at that time he is almost 40 years old. However, the last 4 years, salary is super cheap, $1 million each of the last 3 years. The cap hit is still high at almost $8 million each year so this may be of high desire for budget teams trying to reach the minimum cap floor like Arizona and Columbus.

  5. I am not sure if this is the final straw that broke the camel's back but with 3 minutes to go and the score tied 2-2, you better make sure the puck doesn't end up at the back of your own net. Rarely, do you hear a coach call out a player and say he is "selfish". It cost them minimum one point in the standings and possible chance of a win in overtime.

The worst part is I believe is your own team mates lose their focus and confidence. Same thing with goalies, once the goalie lets a couple soft ones in, the team loses their confidence.

  6. I really need a change of scenery. I've honestly never felt so alone before. I am so busy with school that I hardly have anytime to work (which means I literally have no money). I am grateful for my parents being able to help me out (free lodging), but because I have no money, I'm pretty much isolated to my house. I take my MCAT in September and then send my primary applications to my target schools. Hopefully I am out of here in the months that follow that. I'm miserable.

you need some confidence and a fresh/another perspective.Your position isn't that bad, imagine all those kids who are living on their own with no help/money. I remember the girl who sat beside me in university and she was on her own. She rented her own room and paid for university on her own. When she wasn't in class she would always be working at the local coffee shop to pay her bills. There was no money/time for discretionary spending such as going out to eat or fun activities like watching a movie.

Be careful what you ask for you, you might just get it.

But don't worry about it, I gone through the same thing. I was studying in university and stayed up to midnight most nights at the library for four years straight. I gave up a lot of social activities and fun during those years, but I don't regret it and it really opened the doors for me.

Things can really be worse off in life, just this past week I was reading/watching the news and apparently parents were climbing up the walls of a building in India to help their kids cheat. I understand the cheating part, but if someone slips and falls from the building its probably game over.

  7. Leafe Equipment Sale today from 10-4... I showed up at 8am and was 7th in line so was in the first 10 groupings. Gloves-$100 Sticks-$100 Pants-$100 Skates-$150 socks were 2$ but they didnt have any edge.

    Here's what I picked up.

3 Jason Blakes. 80 flex with a forsberg type curve. They had one more xxxx 77 flx, but i pretty much grabbed most of his sticks.

Haha, we now know who you are. You are the guy standing outside the store wearing the Maple Leafs gloves with stick in hand. The only thing you were missing was a hockey puck for practice. We were standing and thinking this guy is hardcore and ready for action.

Anyhow, good pick up. Some of the kids waiting in line wanted your sticks because they were the ideal height and flex. Too many people bought sticks that they can't properly use, too stiff and wrong lie.

  8. No I just wanted a straight up clone. I think it's just the openness that's making the Samsonov (original) look like it has more toe. I lined up a new blade with the original in these pictures. If you look at the bottom side of the curve, it's dead-on. But if you flip it over, you can see it doesn't line up 100%, which makes me believe the clones need to be opened up a bit more. Kind of hard to tell though.

I think its a bit hard to compare when you have a single replacement blade matched up with the OPS. When you fipped the blades over and took a picture of the bottom, did you grab and hold by the hosel ? I find it tends to sandwich together because the hosels taper in. I personally like to put the blade in a shaft and line up the shafts together then compare the curves. From the first set of picture you took (both blades with white tape) it looks like original Samsonov has a little bit more curve and opens up a bit more too. Just my personal view, I could be wrong.

  9. Today's new goodies. Hejduk tapered pro stock blades with Z-Tac coating (x2). Pictures don't catch it perfectly, but it's a smallish open toe curve. Was hoping to use one in my new Harrow shaft, but they're long hosel'd tapereds. I don't want to cut the shaft down just for these, since I don't know whether I like them. Now I'm just waiting on my Samsonov customs to arrive...

wow, those are Easton grahite T-flex blades, where did you find those ?

what would you say the lie is ?

  10. The Leafs have way too many third line guys and not enough first or second line guys. With any luck they can deal some of their quantity for quality.

I would say the chance of that happening is close to zero. I am a Leafs fan and to be honest if I were the opposition I would have very little interest in trading for their 3rd line players. I rather dip into the unrestricted FA pool. There are still some decent players unsigned.

  11. Olympus E-410 SLR

hmm, i figured you would be using a slr camera. Some of those pictures look pretty sharp. Also, its kind of hard to snap 436 pictures with a point and shoot camera.

i don't know if you have any interest in trying to take action pictures, but you definitely need a slr camera to freeze the action.

  12. Went to the game last night - sat 6 rows up dead center ice. I took 436 pictures...haha

How many are actual keepers? Gotta love digital....take pics EVERYTHING and sort it out later. That an expensive practice if you're buying film.

just out of curiousity, what camera were you using ?

  13. Hahaha David "White Skates" Perron, even got the Kovy mention in there!

Yeah, haha. I was laughing my head off. I had my back turned to the tv and reading some threads and when they announced the name "David Perron" it immediately caught my attention.

    Congratulations.
