  1. If I’m understanding the vague lineup guide correctly, I’m guessing they’re giving the Cat Pro the Bauer/CCM custom treatment. Seems like the skate will be from a sized last with alterations based on the scan. I’m intrigued by the Mako similarities, but I’m gonna wait it out to see what exactly “custom tailored” means.

Chabot looks like his are custom colorway, with more silver than anything and very little, if any yellow at all. Also has the CCM Speedblade XS holders on his.

Tage Thompson wore an identical version. Hopefully it’s a custom option like the blue accents because yellow and chrome is awful.

  3. I’m also curious to see what exactly is different. The catalog description is pretty vague but if this is Trues attempt to refine their product for the Mako loyalists, I’ll be excited to see more.

I’ve also noticed a few NHL pairs on Getty that lack the yellow colorway. Possible custom option?

If you want to see how much your pronation is actually affecting you as you skate there is a simple test. Go for a skate with your laces undone, slip your boots on and make sure the laces can't touch the ice and then do some easy laps around the rink. Try some turns and crossovers, try accelerating from a standing V start, if you think you can do it try some front to back transitions. If you find yourself wobbling and unstable and or your calf muscles starting to scream at you after a few minutes, you are not neutrally aligned over the skate blade. If you find your foot collapsing inwards at all, this is pronation at work. If you find the whole experience meh with no collapsing feet, ie hardly any change to skating laced up, then congrats - you have good neutral alignment over the skate blade.

Funny enough I can answer that. After the last game while the teams were headed off the ice, I untied both skates and stayed on the ice a bit longer to assist with the nets. Not 100% stable, so I’ll do some PT to help.

As for the arches, I’m unsure what to do. I feel I need more volume, but I’m worried the extra space would just add more friction.

My apologies, I have reread your initial post and thought you mentioned arch pain but it was blisters. PBH covered this with a slipping foot.

I can't see how punching the arch out will give you much more volume unless you are having pain at the top of the foot around the 5 / 6 / 7 eyelets down area. If you are looking for more volume in the skate to relieve the top 3 eyelets area (where most lace bite occurs) then I don't think an arch punch is going to help.

No worries. There was arch pressure, immediate pain, and friction. I had no issues with volume anywhere else. I subbed in superfeet after one game and the issue got better but as I said, the damage had been done. I know I have average to high arches and slight pronation. Any suggestions going off that?

Aside from don’t volunteer to work four charity games on new, retail skates…

Fix your pronation, this is the issue. Your medial ankle pain and poor durability were caused by the foot rotating (pronating) in the boot every time you put weight on it. Read this post, do the drill, change the way you skate forever. Ask away if you have any other questions about pronation. As to the FT4's, either punch the arch flat or put in an insole that has the arch cut out of it, this will raise the foot over the arch shape in the boot and hopefully give you some relief (you also need to get your foot stable and not slipping in the boot).

I have been looking into this all day since taking a look at my feet in a mirror. I do pronate a little - nothing crazy. I’ll definitely do the exercise but you lost me with the insole comment. Are you saying I need less arch support? And if you could, please elaborate or reword your punching suggestion. My initial thought is that I should have it punched out to increase volume.

Arch blister typically means your foot is slipping and friction causing the blister or you don't have enough volume and there is pressure on your arch.

Going from a 10R CCM FT4 to a 9.5 FIT3 Bauer seems like you are going in the wrong direction. That skate is going to be significantly wider in the forefoot and heel, especially after the boot breaks in.

    Whats wrong with TRUE?

It was definitely slipping a bit. Threw in superfeet after the second game and it helped, but the damage had been done. Volume was also an apparent issue in the arch.
In store they felt very similar. The CCM were only slightly narrower in the heel/arch but the forefoot felt identical.

True liners are really subpar. They wear and become coarse/dry within months. Depending on the workers give-a-f*ck meter, they can also have quality issues. I’m wanting to go back to traditional skates if I can figure these issues out.

  8. Spent 4 years in True. Minimal issues aside from medial ankle pain and poor interior durability. Trying out some FT4 Pros (10 Regular) with the 90 day guarantee and I ran into an immediate problem. Reffed 4 beer league games yesterday and ended up with massive arch blisters.

I had the same issues with True on a few occasions where I skated 10+ games in a weekend, but this was immediately noticeable and different. I have pretty flat feet and I pronate. What do I do here? More arch support? Punch the area out? Not really keen on dropping $1500 for Total Custom+. I tried Hyperlites (9.5 Fit 3) in store and the arch felt much better but I’m also not keen on taking an $1100 risk. Don’t want to go back to True as of now. Any advice?

Someone who owns an LHS please correct me if I’m wrong but given the current shortage of skates (anything pretty much) stores Really frown upon someone reducing their valuable stock just to try things out…

I imagine CCM would temporarily do away with the promotion if that were the case. Otherwise why allow stock to be gambled with?

With the total custom plus option, you get access to pro level customizations such as boot stiffness options (stock or x-stiff), facing changes, boot height, holder size, and boot cut.

Do you have details on boot height options? I’ve e grown accustomed to the lower cut Trues so that’s exciting to know.

I am going to buy stock CCMs tomorrow and take advantage of the 90 day program to see if they’re worth looking into further.

  11. I am looking for testimonials for CCM Total Customs. In the market to replace skates and I’m coming off Trues. Love ‘em but I’m unhappy with the durability. Before Trues, I did ~60 days in stock AS1s and was very pleasantly superseded with the fit and feel.

Biggest questions I want answered: 1. Do you feel as though they built a skate around your foot; or was it a case of taking a stock skate and ‘super-mounding it’? 2. What special options/ considerations are offered from CCM? Eg. boot height, facing increase/decrease, major protrusions/ bunions.

Any help is appreciated, and don’t hold back on detail.

If you wear your skates that often then that's just wear and tear. Is it ugly or is in not functional ?

Teetering on dysfunction. The liner is shredded in multiple spots and has come unglued from certain areas. I take great care of them though. Never had liner issues as a player - even in junior when I was skating 5-6 days a week.

I've never had issues with trues clarino liner. You can choose the wick liner if you don't like the clarino or vice versa.

I Just tried 3s pros and overall they fit pretty decent but honestly nothing will match trues in terms of comfort. But asking someone who fits in trues whether they fit on x skates isn't really accurate. any custom skates are made for the person's actual feet and aren't indicative of retail skates.

Part of the issue is that I’m a full time official. In fairness, I beat up skates more frequently than your average player. The liner started wearing on me about a year in and at this point it’s ugly.
I’ve heard that Bauer/Ccm customs are not custom - more like personalized. That’s disappointing as True really did mound certain spots to fit abnormalities that I have.

  14. Has anyone here switched from True to the current supremes? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the supremes appear to have a somewhat similar cut to Makos (which I loved). I’d like to move away from True because of the horrific interior durability but I can’t sacrifice fit. Any insight to the similarities between the two would be appreciated.

  15. I’m on the verge of ordering my second pair of Trues. I’m a referee and they’ve served me well over 3 years and who knows how many games. I have a couple of concerns that may have been addressed but this thread is massive:

To those of you who are return customers, has the process/quality changed from the past few years? I ordered in 2018.

When I ordered my current skates, I requested they do something about a problem I have with my medial malleolus. It is larger on my right and low and sits further forward. I suggested increasing the medial facing but left that determination up to them in the notes. This request was ignored while the others were taken care of. It causes significant pain after a couple of games and I haven’t found a solution. Would increasing the facing in that area help? Who can I contact when I reorder to ensure it’s addressed?

  16. Has anyone gotten True to advance the medial facing like Bauer’s asymmetrical quarter? I’m going on year 3 with my customs and that area has worn so badly that it’s causing severe damage that keeps me off ice for weeks at a time. I requested this with my initial order (along with a couple other requests) and it was ignored. The only thing they did to accommodate me was creating a notch where I have a small bunion. I love my Trues as they’re as close to Mako as you can get, but I’m weary to buy again just to have recurring issues.
