With the trade of Bryce Salvador, David now leads the team with a +12. Granted, until recently he was not played in the last few minutes if we were up a goal but the stat is still noteworthy. Blues Team Stats

David and the media pre-game were all talking about how nervous he was. He was put on that line to take pressure off of him in the situation. Do I agree with it, no. I think after the first period and nerves calmed he should have gone back with Boyes and Kariya where he has been the past few games. They won and he got to play so it is moot at this point. On another note. Blues put up some wallpapers. Here is a good 1 of his first NHL goal The puck is about 6 inches behind Khabby's stick at that point.

The season is over here so it is all about getting the kids plenty of playing time. I don't see David missing any games from here on out. I want to see him deke Kovy though and then take him to the boards.

The Blues had a great article go up on their site tonight by Larry Wigge from nhl.com The kid wearing the white skates with the golden Midas touch stickhandling and shooting the puck was desperately determined to be noticed. There is nothing average or normal about the story of David Perron. Read the whole article here

So a friend did a poll with fans for approval ratings of all the Blues players. Here is David's below. It is interesting that there are only a handful of players everyone is happy with. David Perron - 100.0% (E) Yes – Just in case you need more evidence that Perron should be playing more… for every 60 minutes of even strength time that Perron plays, the Blues score 3.32 goals. The only Blue ahead of him in that category is Brad Boyes, and Perron has spent portions of the season playing with non-offensive players. You can read it all here

A friend wrote a blog last night on the Blues game. Here is the part talking about the line of David - McDonald - Boyes Speaking of Perron, I thought he was the player of the game. Everyone knows how talented Perron is when he has the puck. Despite the fact that almost all his opponents boast more pure strength, he often manages to come away with the puck in one-on-one battles. That said, I'd argue his best asset is his forechecking. He's relentless in the offensive zone and gets the opposition's defense to cough up the puck time and time again. I was critical of the Blues after last game because they failed to attack, so it was refreshing to see a different mentality tonight. The whole article is here.

Good game tonight. David worked hard and moved the puck well. For the first time I have seen this year he was on the ice with under 4:00 minutes left in the game. He covered the D zone well enough.

I think Mayers is a perfect player for him to develop another part of his game with. If he was a D I would want him with Salvador. Mayers is a total team guy who wants to retire a Blue with his name on the Grail. More than that he plays for the crest on the front of his jersey and not the name on the back. IMO, this is the most important lesson for him to learn and he has an excellent tutor for it. I really liked when Murray was playing him with Mayers and an offensive player.(I can't remember if it was Tkachuk or Weight) I am not trying to bash Murray or say he is not doing a good job. He has always done well with young players. I think that David can handle 8-10 minutes every game as he continues to develop. Just my own thoughts in that regard and since I don't get paid to do who knows.
-
I agree with most of this Kovy. I disagree with Murray playing him 5 mins with grinders. If he is going to play with that type of player it should be Mayers and Rucinsky with 3rd line minutes. David could help get Rucinsky going and Mayers is fast enough to play with them. Jamal is also a great heart player that could teach a lot as well. My 2 cents on that.

To go along with that there is an update from Strickie this afternoon. David Perron has moved in with Strength and Conditioning Coach Nelson Ayotte for the remainder of the season. Could he turn into another Brindamour?? One thing is for sure, David will learn conditioning and diet from one of the best.

New info with some good insight from Andy Strickland. I went ahead and pasted the entire article since the parts about the other players are minor. The very last paragraph is interesting. It leads me to think JD wants David to learn something specific from Hartsburgh. There are six Canadian players in the NHL who are eligible to participate in the World Junior Championships later this month in the Czech Republic. Jonathan Toews (Chicago), Sam Gagner (Edmonton), Milan Lucic (Boston), Jordan Staal (Pittsburgh), James Sheppard (Minnesota), and David Perron (St. Louis) Hockey Canada has contacted all six clubs to inquire about their availability for the tournament. Only Kevin Low of Edmonton and Larry Pleau of St. Louis have not decided whether or not to send their players. Both Low and Pleau told Hockey Canada officials that they will make a decision by the end of the week. It’s obvious why Staal and Toews will not be leaving their respective NHL teams for a few weeks to go play in this tournament. Minnesota has a need for Sheppard, especially after the retirement of Wes Walz, not to mention the former Cape Breton star is playing around 15 minutes a night for the Wild. Boston told Hockey Canada Lucic will not be going even though the forward has registered only one goal and one assist in 21 games this season. Hockey Canada would like to have an answer no later than Sunday so that travel arrangements can be made to get the players in training camp by Monday in Calgary. More than 30 players will participate in the camp before Head Coach Craig Hartsburg takes his team to the Czech Republic. Blues President John Davidson has a lot of f respect for Hartsburgh, JD told me the Blues wouldn’t even be considering sending Perron unless he was coaching the team.

Strickie had more on this tonight. You can read it all if you like at Andy Strickland Oh Canada! It looks like Blues forward David Perron will participate for Canada in the upcoming World Junior Championships. I know Perron will be disappointed by the news which is completely understandable. Why would he want to leave the NHL? I certainly hope he doesn’t take the assignment as a demotion. What a great life experience this will be for Perron who has never participated in this tournament. The World Juniors is the closest thing to the NHL in terms of overall pace and skill level. It’s extremely intense and includes the best players in the world under the age of 20. This is different than the U-18 tournament; these kids are stronger, more mature, and much more developed as hockey players. It’s a tournament for men, not boys. The games may not be played as smart or as controlled as what you see in the NHL, but some would argue that’s what makes the games so entertaining. The bottom line is if Perron is not going to be inserted into the St. Louis Blues lineup on a consistent basis, then allowing him to represent his country is a no-brainer. I personally think he should be a regular in the Blues lineup because he gives them a dimension they lack, which is offensive imagination, creativity, not to mention he’s a legitimate scoring threat. Some would argue that Erik Johnson should be allowed to represent USA and play in his third WJC. The difference here is that he’s already played in the tournament twice and there is a greater need for EJ if the Blues were to lose a D-man to injury. Assigning Perron to the WJC certainly helps the Blues out as well. They need to make a roster move before they can bring Martin Rucinsky off of IR who is eligible to come of this Friday. Sending Perron to the WJC is no different than assigning the kid to the minors; he comes off your 23 man roster. This move would give the Blues some necessary breathing room for a few weeks as long as they don’t suffer any long-term injuries. Perron will return to the St. Louis Blues following the tournament. This may not be an exciting idea for Perron right now, but assuming he has a great tournament and Canada plays well and wins a gold medal Perron will return to St. Louis with as much confidence as he’s had all season. He’ll feel on top of the world. Hockey fans in Canada got a glimpse of Perron in last year’s Memorial Cup when he played for Lewiston and then again this past summer when he was on a line with Sam Gagner and John Tavares in the Canada, Russia Super Series. He’s the real deal, a magician with the puck who plays with desire, Canada will be lucky to have him! You can expect Perron to leave for Calgary early next week where Canada is holding their training camp before going over to the Czech Republic.

Murray leaves the line-up the same with a win and changes after a loss. If you look at last night, Johnson was out and Wagner was in after the OT loss Friday night. Being a divisional game, I assume Murray left King in the line-up and only put Wagner in. King got the game winner so we can't get on him much this time. I would expect to see David back in Tuesday or Friday at the latest. If I am not mistaken, Wagner lives in the hotel as well. They are trying to get a house for Johnson and David right by the MacInnis house. There is something holding it up but, I did not bother to ask what.

the whole page can be found here http://www.futureconsiderations.ca/dnn/Cal...98/Default.aspx St. Louis Blues forward David Perron has also been scoring at a torrid pace, recording eight points in 10 games to start his NHL career. Perron, the fifth youngest skater in Blues history when he first hit the ice at 19 years, 137 days, is second only to Toews and his Blackhawks teammate Patrick Kane in points-per-game by a rookie. Perron is joined on the list by St. Louis teammate Steve Wagner, ranked 10th on the list. Wagner returns to the list after a three week absence. Teammate Erik Johnson also received votes this week but did not make the list. Moving up to #5 after being #9 last week. 5 - 9 - David Perron - St. Louis Blues Another late addition to the race after sitting out much of the start to the season, St. Louis Blues forward David Perron has more than justified his presence on an NHL roster. With eight points in 10 games, only the rookie duo for the Chicago Blackhawks have a higher points-per-game ratio. The fifth youngest player ever to suit up for the Blues, Perron is plus-3 while averaging 13 minutes per game this year.

Announced during the third period on FSN that he is in the line-up for tomorrow night in Nashville. A memo from JD down to Federko. Fan web poll: David is the most impressive Blues rookie. Congrats, you earned it so run with it all the way.

Strickland just put out a new blog. Here is the important part below. Don’t expect the Blues to send 19 year old rookie David Perron back to the Lewiston MAINEiacs in the Quebec League anytime soon. He's done nothing but impress with both his attitude and play since the start of training camp. Once the 2007 first round pick skates in ten NHL contests he loses a year of service towards free agency. The Blues understand they really don’t need to make a decision right away, there seems to be little concern over Perron gaining a year towards waivers and free agency. Nowadays if you really want to hang on to a player you usually extend him before he ever becomes eligible for unrestricted free agency anyway. In reality the Blues could send him back in January if they felt like it. The idea of sending Perron back to junior shouldn’t even be discussed by Blues management and coaches. When you honestly assess what he brings to the table and identify what the team needs are, would it make any sense at all to send this guy back? On a team dying for offense, why would the Blues send back one of the few players who appears to be a threat to score every time he handles it in the offensive zone? The kid’s confidence is sky high, he plays fearless, and he’s passionate about the game. Perron is playing determined hockey and you could argue he makes Doug Weight better. Weight and Perron play a nice two man game with one another, they are developing some chemistry. They constantly look for each other in the offensive end and seem to be the only line going right now. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native has put up five points in his first seven games and is getting better by the game. The only reason I would suggest sending him back would be if he wasn’t going to play. The idea that he’s better off here to learn how to practice and work out made since a month ago. He would certainly take what he’s learned in the NHL back to junior and apply it there. I have never seen a player get better by not playing, he’s no different. Right now the Blues are a better hockey club with David Perron in the lineup. He’s the last guy off the ice every day in practice and he’s done everything asked of him. Imagine what his numbers would look like if he played at the beginning of the season. The Blues have some other options as well; they could always allow him to play in the World Juniors for team Canada if they choose to. My point here is, don’t look for Perron to go anywhere anytime soon. The Blues have made themselves look pretty smart by keeping him here in the first place. I wouldn’t mind to see Lee Stempniak with Weight and Perron.

Another congratulations needs to go out to David. He has come into the #9 slot for Calder consideration. 9 - NR - David Perron - St. Louis Blues After watching the start of the season from the press box, an eager David Perron has had a strong impact on the St. Louis Blues. Playing just three games in October, Perron has finally solidified himself in the Blues' lineup and played a career high 17:24 minutes in his last game against fellow rookies Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. Coincidently, the game marked Perron's first multi-point game. Here is the whole page for anyone that wants to see it. Future Considerations

I saw it from 20 feet away directly in front of me. While sliding on his butt he took a swipe at it. The overhead picture is his follow through from that. He definitely got a piece of it as the puck was just sitting there before hand. He deserves that goal after the deflection that went just wide. Weight slid him a beautiful pass he got all of. Khabi could have gotten a piece of that one but. he was in between me and the puck so I am not sure.
-
My seat was right there to see the goal. My seat was on the aisle with nobody in front of me with the goal right there. He definitely deserved the goal. Him and Weight were the hardest working players once again and David deserved the 2nd star. There was a big grin when he skated out announcing the 3 stars. So much for that size thing people used to talk about. He was in there mixing it up all night. I saw him give a little facewash to a D at the side of the goal. He got hit pretty hard behind the net on a shift. Next shift out, he hammered the guy to return the favor. Congrats

Fresh from Stricky this evening. I couldn't have said it better and he definately put David's game Thursday in the proper light. I sit 5th row Saturday where the blues shoot twice. Good luck on getting your first against the Hawks. Maybe he can show Toewes and Kane what stick handling is. Of course, all props will have to go to Kovy_ribs... afterwards. It didn't take long for David Perron to prove he belongs in the lineup did it? Perron will stay in the lineup vs. the Blackhawks. He led the Blues in shots and scoring chances Thursday at Minnesota. Speaking of Perron, it's nice to see the U.S. Governemnt finally issued him a social security number so he can begin to enjoy his NHL paychecks. Up until now he's been relying on his big brother D.J. King to buy his meals. Perron has some lunches to buy! The Blues will consider allowing Perron to play for Canada in the World Junior Championships come Christmas time unless he continues to be a regular in the lineup.

good article and thanks for posting the translation. On a different note, my son wanted to go see the Blues practice last Friday for his day off school. He of course wore his #57 jersey. It looked as though a couple players were giving him some crap on the ice about the jersey whenever my son came up to the glass. JD made a comment to my boy about his jersey as well. He and MacInnis were sitting behind us really watching David. Johnson got waived a few hours later. That move was made to work him into the line up. They really like him and want to be careful it sounded like. One thing apparent at the practice. David has the best hands on the team and everyone seems to know it. They were getting him to do some stuff with his hands and Boyes and Hinote were just staring and giggling at what he was pulling off. I had to go do some work for some of his team mates and couldn't wait out him coming off the ice.
-
He hasn't been sent down. His team mates speak highly of him and want him to succeed. I don't know Weight but, one guy I talk with regularly says that he wants to play with him and they really seem to read each other well. I beleive they can loan him for a junior series. With the time they are spending working with him I do not think he will be sent down. It also makes more sense to keep him up with the other rookies who will enter next year. They need to stagger the kids into the lineup to be fiscally responsible down the road. His work should pay off and become a regular shortly. Murray is all about character and teaching. He will be ready to go when he is called. I think he gets 2-3 games in a row after tonight. They are ideal match-ups for it.
-
They do custom numbers on jersey's at one of the shops on the concourse. We got there early and paid and got the jersey at first intermission. It was the first they had made and they had to look up who it was. None the less, David earned the right to have his number there so more power to him. Hopefully it works out like the last custom i got a couple weeks into a season. #5 is still here and playing well
-
I saw that before the season opener. I thought it was funny hearing the scout say he reminded him of Kovalev. There is another one out there were they are compared but added to the comparison that David was grittier. Great compliment IMO On a different note. My son was thrilled to get his first custom jersey Saturday for the game.

It was a flip of the coin on that one. Maybe someone will have a stomach flu and have to sit out.
