  1. "Hi do you need help with anything?"

" Yis I need skates. I git discount right?"

"Discount for what? Do you work at the pier?"

"No, no, discount for buying zee skates."

"No, you don't get a discount for buying a pair of skates."

For some reason thats a hilarious joke where I work.

Pair of douchebags: "hey, did you get my discount?"

    Me: "What?"

DB: "Did you give me a discount"

Me: (knowing that our discounts are on a card that is swiped through the credit card reader): Do you work here?

DB: Laughs histerically, with his buddy, pointing at me and saying "Gotcha" and "Gullible"

I've been there a month and I've had at least 5 people have thought asking for a discount is somehow funny. You'll be surprised to learn that it's not.

    "Can I get a discount?"

"OK, so you're asking me to risk my job to give you a discount? Ok, so what are you going to do for me?"

  2. Ok moments ago, a guy comes into the shop. He said he bought skates here with his son but now he cannot find the old skates that he thinks were with him when they bought the new ones. I asked how long ago was the purchase. He said about 3 weeks. I asked what brand. He said CCM. we had just recently cleaned up the service room of old skates never picked up. I don't see any CCMs but go back out to ask him another question. As he walks away from me, he is holding a black Bauer T-shirt just off our rack. The guy is fairly well dressed, $800 designer frame glasses as well. As I walk the last 10' to talk to him, I'm looking for the shirt in his hands. I meet up with him, no shirt in hand! I look at his jacket and see a bulge. I just flat out call him out "Where's the black T-shirt?" looking at his jacket. He opens it up and there it is. "Give me the shirt and get out of here." He has the balls to say,"What about the skates?" My reply is "Do you want me to call the cops? Get the fuck out of here."

    I'm still pissed.

  3. Today in the shop. A guy comes back to get a pair of ONE95 skates he had tried on a few weeks ago. "Yeah, I want to get them but want to know if you could do a layaway." Yea, sure, leave me some money, pay them off in time, and then they are yours." "Yea, well I play here 3 times a week. My 692s need steel but I really can't put the money into them if I get these skates because I don't have a job right now. I'd like to get the skates. I'll leave you my credit card number too." " I don't think so. That's not how layaway works. I can't give you the skates unless they are paid in full." "But, but isn't there anything you can do. Isn't there someone you can talk to?" "Uh, you are talking to him right now. Sorry but I can't let everyone who wants to do what you are asking do it. Sorry." "Oh, gee."

After a few minutes, it really did take that long, he realized he wasn't getting the skates without payment in full. That would have been nice if I had agreed to his great idea and then he cancels the credit card number and I never see him again. Well, that was a first and I hope a last, too.

  4. No time or patience in Toronto for Leafs fans or management to build through draft. The Rangers were the same way forever. The Rangers finally slowed down with that method and now have Dubinsky, Staal, Callahan, Girardi, Del Zotto, Anisimov, and Lundqvist to show for it. Brian Burke is not God when it comes to building a team.

  5. Pshh a 13 year old set up a flame fest on MSH, but a 6 year old sent the whole nation in disarray for a few hours.

    ????

Open up USA Today online and you will understand.

I used to go fly fishing a lot. It has been over 10 years since I have bought a new carbon graphite fly rod. They are easily over $500 for top end quality. There is no way I walk into a fly shop and start waving these wands around without talking to a salesman in the shop about what I am holding and looking at. For the guy who hasn't played in ten years, first thing I usually find from guys like that in my shop is before they start picking up sticks and flexing them, they stop and ask me what happened to sticks in the last 10 years and what is a flex and what am I looking at. A little respect for the shop's inventory and product goes a long way towards building a relationship with the customer and sales guy on the floor.

  6. The latest launch of new OPS has brought all manners of toedraggers out to the shops to check and flex the new arsenals. I am sorry for Drew's experience this week. Guys like Drew, JR, Chadd, and myself have first hand experience with this situation from the employee side. It is a lot different playing traffic cop all this week with the flexers who really don't have a clue what they are doing or even why they are doing it. From our side of the shop, this nonsense gets really old really fast.

  7. I don't see Burke getting rid of Wilson, or at least not until after the Olympic break. Would make for some team awkwardness to fire your coach when you have to work together for the Olympics. In Wilson's defence, his team is playing like shit in front of him. Dumb, needless penalties, brutal penalty killing, no offensive talent, a band-aid rookie goalie, and another who's playing himself straight out of the NHL. What do you expect Wilson to do? He can't exactly turn water into wine. I don't think there really is a coach out there that would show any significant improvement to this team over Wilson. Toronto is still in rebuild mode. Expecting them to contend with the upper echelon of teams in the league so soon is ignorant on your part.

No way Wilson gets fired with Burke and Olympics down the road. As far as your last sentence, I don't expect anything of the Leafs. They have a long way to go but people in Toronto are tired of waiting. A lot of talk over the summer is showing no early results or reason to be optimistic.

  8. A few queations:

1.) Where did you order these? Bauer itself, or some website?

2.)Can You order just one at a time or must it be team order?

    3.)How much do they cost?

    thanks

    1. I manage a pro shop and ordered them for the team.

    2. Team order gloves from Bauer = 15 pair minimum, no single pair orders.

    3. Price depends on your LHS.

  9. The Retail double layer with the XXX palm feels great. However, I have Vapor XXXX gloves from Team Canada Junior team from two years ago. I won them on the ebay auction after the tourney. Those gloves have Pro palm single layer. When we went to place this custom order, I knew I wanted another Pro palm glove in the 4 roll. It was easy to get 12 pair together in Pro palm. They feel awesome and the 13" glove I got is actually a touch snugger than my 13" 4 roll NBH retail from 08. We did 14 pair in Retail palm for the team. The minimum for the team order is 15 pair. I'll be giving the Eagle PPFs a rest for the first time in a few months to wear these Bauers tomorrow night.

  10. We just got in these Bauer 4 rolls in custom colors for North Jersey Avalanche 16 AAA team. We did 12 pr + in Pro Style single layer palm and 12 pr + in Retail Style double layer palm. The Retail palm is the Vapor XXX palm! That was a surprise, in a good way. Great fast job by the Custom Department at Bauer Hockey! Thanks guys!!

  11. Just to clarify, I charge the 7% NJ sales tax on custom gloves shipped out of NJ. This is known as CYA. It keeps the CFO happy.

I was afraid of that. When I was in college I worked winters at a Camden County hockey pro shop and summers in a Salem County golf pro shop and we did lots of custom orders and never charged tax for out-of-state shipping. Bet we also got audited a lot on in-state sales on what things were taxable sporting goods (hockey sweaters, spiked golf shoes) or non-taxable clothing (hockey fan sweater for a baby, spikeless golf staff shoes). I understand the CYA. a shame that I have to think twice about coming up there because not only $15+ sales tax, from Exit 1 on the Turnpike I'm probably also looking at another $15 in tolls (road taxes).

Glad you understand. Tax auditing by the state happens more than some may think. They visited the last place I worked at quite a few times. Also, the tolls on the NJ Turnpike suck.

The Eagle customizer is back up.

  12. Just to clarify, I charge the 7% NJ sales tax on custom gloves shipped out of NJ. This is known as CYA. It keeps the CFO happy. As for shopping in NJ, there is a 7% sales tax on "non-essential" items. Shopping for food and clothes(essential items) in NJ = no sales tax. This is why so many people from NYC drive over the Hudson River to food and clothes shop. While X:60 skates and Easton SE16 OPS may be "essential" to us on MSH, they are taxable items in NJ. All further questions can be directed to the Department of Taxation in Trenton, NJ.
