I meant adjusting to a completely different skate.

The skates need more than 20h to break in and a rebake with saran. You could try a different profile. And if you you aren't satisfied with your skates after this procedures it's time to think about an exchange of the holders.

At some point the logical conclusion has to be drawn that these might not be the right skates for people who want to re-engineer the entire skate to match the feel of a previous owned skate. Easy enough to go back to what they had before and it's not that difficult to find second hand skates that have been hardly used, if you have the patience to search for them.

I did 20 minutes in a conventional oven for each skate, flipping it over halfway, but I monitored the temperature with a digital thermometer to leave nothing to chance since my oven heats a little hotter than the dial indicates.

I'm pretty sure the latest from True is 6-8 minutes baking time in a conventional oven, down from 10 minutes originally.

    Awesome, thanks.

And yes, I guess they were only available in Jr sizes, didn't realize.  I usually wear a size 5 or 4.5 (small feet, lucky me) so never bothered to see if they were available in Sr. sizes.  I recently tried TF7 on in size 4, with a quick bake, and they would probably work for me, but I did not pull the trigger to make the purchase.  So it sounds like the older "stock" skates are closer to the original custom only skates, than they are to the current retail skates due to improvements in lay-up design and such.  If I was pretty comfortable in a baked TF7 size 4, do you think the "stock" size 4-4.5 skate would work for me?

Not too concerned about weight (unless someone can make a good argument), especially since I currently use Grafs (535 and 735) that I don't think are known for their featherweight.

I think those JR. skates go up to size 5 and they are readily available at a huge discount right now, I purchased a pair of 4.5 for my son, they are well made but a bit heavier than the TF7's and not as polished.

I'm generally very happy with my TF9s, but a few folks have mentioned the little ridge in the front bottom of the toe cap on the half sizes. Does this go away? Didn't bother me for a while, but the other day I got tripped and while trying to catch myself, I felt my big toe jam into that ridge and it left a nice bruise on the front of my toe. Not broken, but still uncomfortable and I've never had such a thing happen in any other skate. Hoping the ridge there will eventually compress or something, but if anyone can speak from experience I'd appreciate it

Is there not a removeable toe bumper in the half-sizes?  I have heard it can be removed to allow for expansion of foot length.

    Howdy,

Thanks for the baking advice.  Hope to have time to try it out in the next few days.

Last night for a slower game I was reffing I used my old Mako M8's...  Two immediate impressions:

    1) putting those on was like putting on a pair of slippers.  No pressure points anywhere and my feet were seriously locked in.  I definitely need to work on the TF7's to get them fitting like that.  Wow.

    2) The TF7's are SO MUCH stiffer than my old Makos!

I was amazed at how much more I had to concentrate on getting over onto my edges with the Makos to get anything like the bite into the ice I'm now used to with the TF7s, for instance.  The Makos felt almost floppy on my feet.  I was pretty much used to it after 30 minutes or so on the ice, but it was really crazy just how different that felt.

    Mark

Do you find the angle of attack of the TF7's similar to the Makos?

  6. Great, thanks for the replies!  I bought a pair of 4.5 for my son online after he rejected the Mako 2's I found for him earlier this summer, hopefully he likes these better.  He did not care for the Mako's steeper angle of attack as it put him off balance and I don't want to mess around re-profiling the blades as they are getting hard to find and more expensive than the skate now.....time to move on as I don't want to throw good money after bad.

Question about the sizing of the Trues, I've read about the removeable toe bumper that allows for expansion but need clarification, is a 4.5 actually a size 4 boot with the bumper removed or is it a size 5 boot with the bumper intact?

  7. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of the True Junior Stock Skates currently on sale for $199 CDN at numerous retailers across the Internet?  Not sure their history but my best guess is they are the predecessors of the TF7, possibly put out the year before they launched.  Just wondering how they compare in weight and build quality to the TF7's.  Thanks.
