  1. Well, yeah, but not skating on them until tomorrow.

Seriously though, if anybody sees this that's had experience, the LHS I got em at told me they don't need to be contoured/profiled. I was a bit skeptical. It doesn't matter, I wouldn't trust them to do it anyway, but I was wondering if those who have used them still get them profiled. My guess is yes, still get them profiled.

Any feedback will be helpful. I expect the first couple skates will feel weird enough that I won't know if they need it or not.

From the difference in pitch, you might want to try them first and then see how you like the holder.

  2. Mirror finish....

As I reported elsewhere, the local sharpener jacked up my BlackEdge runners by honing them. But, that said, they never had a mirror finish. It was a rather matted finish. (If I recall correctly....as they are definitely matte finish now!) DOH!

  3. It's nice that it's wider than the skinny little inserts you get with a lot of the shorts. I like the 10K better than anything else I've tried over the almost 50 years since I started playing. I have the one without the garters. I'm not big on multi-function stuff, and I use the velcro on compression shorts to hold up my socks.

I use an old Itech boxer sort type under the Jofa/Reebok cup. I cut out the cup out of the Itech after one of the straps came undone. Works like a charm. Comfortable. I did not like the Jofa/Reebok cup as much on bare skin with a garter.

  5. I had a pretty similar run last winter/spring and it turned out I had a number of previously undiagnosed allergies. I strongly suggest being tested to anyone that has had a string of sinus issues. It won't alleviate the deviated septum, but it certainly could reduce the amount of sinus problems that you have.

I have a band mate who had the sinus/deiviated septum surgery and he always had a million sinus infections even afterwards. It was allergies to certain foods that caused him to be succeptible to the infections and sinus congestion. He changed his diet and not only lost weight but he has had no sinus issues from then on. I have to check, but I think it was dairy and wheat or gluten causing his issues. I had never heard of such a thing.

  6. Powerfibers,

You might want to look into orthotics for your son. Yellow superfeet have quite a pronounced arch, while you say that your son is quite flat footed. I am surprised that he doesn't have foot pain in the arch.

That is interesting. I never really considered that. I will ask him about if he has soreness. The problem with a ten year old is that sometimes they say they are wearing the best skate ever, and they are talking about look or name brand and not performance. I would definitely look into a different route in footbed if these are not the best ones for his arch type.

I will say though, that he is skating better than ever. From the outside, the mods seem to have made a difference. Thanks for the insight.

  7. When I brought my son up to Front Row in Thorold (from Buffalo), he was told that he had flat feet. He was fit for Eastons which the fitter said were good for his foot shape and arch. Yellow Suoer Feet in. Then, they proceeded to watch him walk and they removed and adjusted his holders. I could watch even in store as he became much more stable walking up and down the aisles. I believe they adjusted only the right holder (this is eerily similar to what you have described). Anyway, he has had the skates for the last three months, has never skated better, and loves the fit and feel.

I believe the gentleman's name as Armando? I highly recommend him and the shop. I was actually going to bring my skates in and see what he thought, but I did not. We are very happy with the skates and fitting. I also appreciated the fact that he fit us in a $199 junior skate and the price or name brand was never an issue the whole time. I just said give him what fits him best, he plays AA, and he gets a lot of ice time. We could have paid a lot more.

  8. Last Friday, took a fall and landed on my ribs. Was sore all weekend and played Monday. Everything was fine, felt great and even scored twice. A little sore still all week, but no major pain or problems. Went out last night to coach our squirt team and after fifteen minutes of barely doing anything, I felt like someone hit me in the ribs with a bat. Tried to play in a league game later on and had to stop after a period, could not bear the pain. I guess I need to shut it down for a while til I heal. Damn! I have been on a tear lately.
