  1. If we don't have skates that are going to fit right, we don't charge the fee. It is not $20 for each pair you try on.

Okay, I get that, but let me ask a different way...If I have a relatively normal foot, there might be several skate models that might fit me. What if I don't like them. How do you know that I am not just saying that so I can go buy online?

I am not saying that I don;t feel for the shop owners, believe me. I just don't know how the fee is really enforceable? I guess that is what I am politely wondering.

  2. What happens if I come in and you try to fit me, but you have nothing appropriate? This could legitimately happen. For example, I brought my 9 yr old

for a fitting and we found the Vapor line would work but they had no 4's and no idea when they would be getting them in. So we went elsewhere in town and ended up in Graf 301s which cost us about $50 more.

Would I have been out the $20? Just curious how this would work in that situation. What if the store had both, but I didn't want to spend the extra $50.

One of our local stores has a $5 shooting zone fee that they refund on purchase. I would not mind paying this, but then again I know that I am going to end up with a stick. Skates aren't so easy.

  3. If the other guy is married to the wife's sister, it would be the wife's brother in law and no relation to grinder. If you want to get technical

Really? I always call my wife's brother's wife my sister in law. (Sorry if that hurts to try to figure out). You are probably right though, Chad.

  4. Played with the stick yesterday. Used it for 2 periods and had some kind of difficulties to adapt. I had issues with the feeling of the puck that was very different from my x60 pro stock. Plus the stick is sooooo light, it's almost like you have nothing in your hands (a lot lighter than my x60). I'll have to adapt on that point too since when I feel the weight of my stick that make me know were is my blade without checking.

That being said, shooting is awesome and I'm sure in 4-5 games that will become my #1 stick. As soon as I adapt with the blade and the weight.

PS. I tape my blade from 3/4 of the heel to complete toe. And near the heel where there was no tape I noticed after the game that I had a little chip in my blade.

My Reebok chipped exactly the same. Interesting.

  5. 02.

I don't think the rarer options are available in the minispinners.

prob get 100/50-75, 90/75. Poll your teammates on ROH

I have 100/50 (my favorite for wide variety of conditions), 100/75 (smaller/lighter kids like my 9 year old like this), 90/75 (only used a few times for softer ice), and 1/2 (which I use for friends who have been skating on it a while or for the emergency sharpening on a kid. It won't be too different from they had before).

Understand that I do this for free and don't encourage anyone to bring me skates! I have the bigger unit which I decided upon because I had the cash and figured better to go big. It was the best money I have ever spent on hockey gear. Love it.

  6. I was told the distance between the holder and the bottom plate should 1/2". Here is the message from Blackstone:

"No worries – you can reset the holder. Measure the space in between the bottom plate (plate with the felt pad on it) and the top plate (black piece). Make sure that the measurement in between the plates are 1/2 inch. This will get you very close to where you need to be. After that, you can try sharpening and then make the necessary adjustments to get level again."

They have been great all along, but I am considering the new holder myself.

  7. Looking for a new edge checker. Anyone try these:

    http://edgeprohockey.com/

As opposed to the $149 BLADEMASTER.

I have the bat gauge, but I don't think I am getting good readings out of it. I would like to have something else to compare with and money is not the big issue for now, just not sure if I should pony up for the Blademaster at three times the cost.

  8. I got to try my FBV blades last night. They were awesome, I got to pucks that I never usually get to. Which leads me to ask, what do I do on a breakaway? I really like the glide, but I need the shallower cut. I had way too much edge, felt like I was going to bust an ankle. At one point someone chirped at me for letting up going into the corner, my reply was "I was afraid I was going straight through the boards!"

Thanks Bob (and Steve), sharpening came out great!

  9. It will have more of a 1/2 " feel to it but you will fly. It will take you a few laps to warm up to it and then you will be off to the races.
    Hey Bob,

Go to Sorrentino's I think they are doing it.

    Steve,

Anyone in NY with this yet?

    Thanks, Bob

Thanks Steve! Just now I called those guys and they said that they had it in 3/8 and 1/2. What does that equate to? I was expecting them to know a little more.

Bad news. When I got there, they told me they had packed the FBV spinner up. They were too hesitant to keep the FBV spinner and were sending it back.
