Very interested in some more recent, time tested reviews of these blades.  I find myself to be quite an analytical person, as well as somebody who understands engineering quite well and the theory behind these blades makes a lot of sense to me, in terms of what they are trying to accomplish.  However, the only detractor for me is, with repeated force on the front portion of the blade ( which for lack of a better term, is supposed to be a spring board sort of design )............does it eventually deform the blade in any way?  Does the spring loaded concept dissipate over time?  Does the blade itself eventually bend ever so slightly in the front third of the blade ( effectively giving you a smaller radius in the front portion of the blade as it repeatedly bends upward and closer to the bottom of your foot over and over and over again)?

I managed to snag a NCAA pro return pair this summer and have been on them roughly twice a week. Profiled the same as my Black steel and Ti-Pulse and in my experience it totally lives up to the hype of being easier on the body.

    - Pros

Prior I was developing left hip issues to the point i was missing games and these have allowed me to stay on the ice.  My right (sugerically repaired) knee has also responded better

My friends have noticed my skating has been better as well. Honestly I don't know any difference in speed or agility but I think it's possible because my hip/knee just feels better.  I'm 40 now so anything that can help ease the body/joints is a huge benefit to me.

    - Cons

For me is I do feel like the blacksteel has better glide so I might try the DLC set next given and hope it provides bit more glide.

Yes I'm aware this sounds like an infomercial but I'm sold on it.  And If they wanna give me a deal on the DLC version I'll gladly accept 🙂

I understand the R&D aspect of the price, but a big part of the rising costs is “because we can, and people will keep buying them.” (Bauer, I’m looking at you…)

the positive part is what was once a top of the line stick trickles technology down to models in subsequent years second and third tier sticks at a comparative bargain

Yep Bauer wasn't stupid when they released the Vapor ADV for $369 (cdn) few years ago.

  3. Trying bunch of new skates lately (coming from Trues > RBZ > Makos) and I noticed in particular AS1 and sometime in the Jetspeed that I could get very sharp pain in the back of the heel when i put my weight forward over my toes.

Is this a question of heel pocket not being deep enough or wrong shape for me? Can the heel pockets be punched out in these new one piece boots? I do have slight bauer bumps in my heels btw.

  4. yesido, your question makes perfect sense. Do not get more pitch on the Mako's. Your CLs likely had just 1 degree of pitch. Skate on the Mako's a few times, let your boby mechanics adjust, then if their pitch is too much, you can have some removed.

i had my CL's profiled 30/50 on a cag machine and i can say the difference was almost none to me. In the Mako's the stock profile i felt was right at home. Would you have a recommendation if i want to swap to the new LS holders? The idea of having extra steel on hang is the reason i'd want them.

  5. i'm probably SOL b/c these were purchased used online (this is the risk i took) so i'm looking for repair options.

I'd have S17s (great performance but not durability) before and didn't last long so i didn't wanna risking paying full retail again.

  6. I had something similar happen to mine Seaner; my liner pulled up at from the bottom sole and tear a bit, I just did the hill billy thing and added a piece of tape where it pulled off and tore and it hasn't further more tore or pulled away any more. I can post a picture later when I get home from work to show you

can you post a pic if you don't mind? i noticed that the liner is has pulled away/seperated/bubbled up from the padding from the ankle bone to the top of the footbed. Anyone have any ideas on how to repair this?

  7. Any issues with lace bite on instep? I'm pretty sure I will fail pencil test there too, and not sure I want to dump $800 on a pair of skates that failed the pencil test on instep.

Chad based on that pic he posted showed he would of failed the pencil test by quite a bit. i'm waiting for his longer term review before i jump in too.

  8. Although everyone is hyped up about the top end Mako stick, I would just like to draw some much deserved attention to the pricepoint Mako M1 II and M2 II. Although I have not weighed them individually, they are perhaps the lightest and most balanced sticks at their respective ($70, $100) pricepoints. Absolutely phenomenol first impression.

+1 i picked up the 70 dollar one thinking it was the M5 and was shocked to see the sticker say $69.99!

Got to try on a pair of mako skates unheated, man it's a comfy skate very sneaker like material for the liner, unfortunately might not be deep enough for me still (skate was already molded to someone else fit but fit me really well). And for the price the best option for me now might just be custom Nexus skates all i really need it tighter heel lock on stock 1000 last for the most part.

  9. I saw the skate this week. If you are an MLX guy, you will not be disappointed, The skate is taken to the next level in every aspect. Baking a skate for 16 minutes is only the beginning of what speed skates are baked for. Therefore, the technology crossover is obvious regarding bake time. After a boot was heated for the presentation, it was as soft and pliable as a sneaker. The ability to shape the boot then is what makes the fit so customized like nothing else.

can you comment on how deep the boot is? it looks pretty shallow in the fore-mid foot area but that could be a pair already molded so it could already be folded in.
