  1. I still have my RBK 20k but I replaced them with FT4 Pros a few years ago. Holding up well, I like them almost as much as the old nostalgia Jofas. On semi related note, I still have my 20K elbows but the Jetspeeds look like a good option. Give the Jetspeeds another try? Took me a few sessions to get used to them but I would never go back now.

  2. I've only tried Bauer and True. I found the Trues to require 0 break in period and they had the most "custom" fit. I did not even need to lace the skates when they were new, but they were a pain to put on and take off. Only drawbacks when new were the cosmetic issues. After a few seasons few some rivets popped out, the boots lost stiffness quicker than the Bauers and the heel lock is loose on the dominant foot. All minor issues. The last time I put on the Bauer for ODR it felt loose after getting used to the snugness of True.

I think if you have foot issues or mangled feet, the Trues would be a very suitable skate.

  3. The weekend was a blur of entertainment and ended too soon as all fun things tend to do. Thank-you JR, Erica, Joey, Gene, Chris, Dave -- apologies for forgetting anyone that made this happen and organized it months before/BBQ'd the food. Regret not taking a day off to join the Saginaw road trip.

The booklet was a great idea, really helped identify who is who. Thank you Chris for the extra time you put into making that happen.

It was awesome to see Warrior, Bauer and CCM show up and display their gear and answer everything. If they're reading this, I hope they continue to come. I do recommend these products to my teammates who more often than not, need new clean gear. Sorry, I may have drooled on the EK65 gloves a little bit.

The game was a good skate. I forgot my MSH gloves, so thank-you to Tom for lending me a set. Tom forgot an elbow pad so he modded his jock to fit his elbow, hahaha.

5ivehole jerseys were brilliant, I will pass the contact info to those looking for new team jerseys. Great design, loved the shoulder patches.

This was only my 2nd Winter Fest but I enjoyed meeting new people, sharing some drinks and food together for two nights. World's Best Mac and Cheese + 1am Primo's Pizza!!!  Can't wait to see everyone again!

  4. Thank you to JR, Erica and the organizers for hosting and prepping such an enjoyable event. Appreciate all the hard work before and after the event. Photos, video, jerseys...wow.

It was very interesting to see all the vendors. Custom Skateworks, Monty, Prosharp for participating and answering all my questions. CCM for providing the sticks and skates -- i'll pick up a Jetspeed one day.

The gloves from Warrior are beautiful.

Dave's a trooper for lighting that fire. I just heard Chris saying "I smell gas..." then bolted. Witnesses say Dave's arm was engulfed in flames?

The burgers and wings were great made even better by the scenic view. Matt's famous Mac and Cheese wasn't present, but he shared the reciepe and how it's made (use imagination). :)

Also could not complain about the late night pizza call, went well with the beers. Too bad we could't finish the cooler. Will definitely bring a case of Steamwhistle for Gooner next time.

I am a huge fan of the Covert QRL - absolutely love the low kick point on the stick. The QREdge has the same low kick that we know and love. The stick is very similar in weight, but is slightly lighter. Warrior has upgraded to an Edge Taper, which helps keep the stick more stable on shots to improve accuracy and help get shots off faster.

I've been using it for a few weeks now, and so far it's an amazing stick. It keep the same features that made us fall in love with the QRL, but is definitely an upgrade worth getting.

Agreed on all points. The low kick is an improvement on the QRL.

  6. I think backup job is Sparks to lose after his ridiculous AHL season.

Grundstrom could be a 4th liner but I don't think he will make it this year. Johnson was a beast during AHL playoffs. Trevor Moore was also a valuable asset, he could be a Babcock guy for the 4th line. I think they will give Holl a chance for the bottom 3 pairing with Marincin. They were really good together.

  7. Huge thank-you to Warrior and JR for the beautiful stick. Also kudos to Renfrew for the tape. Also appreciate the white QREdge hat from Warrior.

    Me: 5'9, 155
    Stick: LH, 70 Flex, Backstrom
    Tape: Heel to toe
    Position: W/C
    Location: Toronto
    Level: B to C, 4-5 times a week

    Recent Sticks Used:
    Warrior QRL, QR1
    Warrior AK27
    Bauer 1N (2017)
    Bauer 1X (2016)
    True XC9 ACF

    First Impressions:

I return home to find a huge box on my front door. This is after checking my mailbox everyday for a package slip.

I take some pictures for social media for Warrior. I also do an unboxing video which turns out to be a really sad one as I received a righty instead of a lefty. Briefly contemplated learning to shoot right because the stick felt so great. After some panic, an email and a quick call to Warrior, a replacement was sent out.

Two days later I return home to find a huge box on my front door. I rip it open and find a beautiful QR Edge with the right specs. After a quick tape job with Renfrew on the blade and Renfrew grip tape on the top, I play around with the green biscuit on my floor.

I was hoping to test the QREdge, QRL and QR1 versus the 1N and XC9 with a radar gun but I just moved and haven't purchased a new net yet. This will come later.

    First Ice Sessions:

The stick feels light and balanced. The Edge taper is beautiful -- it was actually love at first sight over half a year ago when I had my first sighting (I can talk about this now?). The colour scheme of blue/orange and black complement each other very well. But enough about aesthetics...

Blade/Receiving Passes: I agree with the other reviewer comments. It's not stiff so I need an extra bit of care to receive hard passes. Again, in the hands of a more accomplished player I believe it will be a lesser point. But hey, this stick is about shooting -- and shooting quick.

Passing: Quick release passes rocket off this with a little hop. Minimums Carbon 1200 makes it lighter and stronger than previous editions.

Shooting: This stick loads quickly and gives a great release. You're able to feel the sling of the puck just fly off the blade and hit the target. I feel like Warrior improved an already wonderful stick in the QRL. Quick load, quick release.

I placed around 250-300 shots during the open ice session. I admit I wasn't able to load it properly every time (user error) but in the hands of a true sniper this stick will give the edge. I felt snappers and wristers came off with ease. It's like a gradual evolution of the QR1 --> QRL to QREdge.

Shaft/Durability: It feels strong, and I have no doubt it will last longer than the QRL and will be able to take abuse from opposing players. I'm interested in how long the toe will last.

Overall: I have one QRL left so I'm going to buy more of the QREdges in the same flex/pattern. Great job to Warrior. Will add another review in the coming weeks after more games are played.

Flames sale is online now. Some massive jersey steals, $50 for team issued jersey with names/numbers (obviously not big names). $40 for blank team issued jerseys. $20 for numbered practice jerseys and $40 for named practice jerseys. You have to call the store, leave a message with your name and number and they call you back and you tell them what you'd like to order.

I didn't really look through the equipment section so can't comment on those prices/deals.

Thanks for this find. Quite a few skates for $100-200 if you're in the size 9-9.5 category. Goalie gear is all half.

  9. I take the Bruins over the Lightning. Sure they have arguably the best line in the league but the Leaves have three and possibly four if they let Johnny play.

Goaltending is the wild card. Bruins played the most games in last stretch and Leafs least.

*forgot about the "it was 4-1 game" already*

New stick grips from Russiangrip. They’re really nice. Maybe not 3x the price of tacki mac nice, but still very nice.

Tacki-mac also can’t do dual colors like this. I have my first ever set of custom sticks on the way so figured why not. Likely go back to tacki-mac in the future just for the price difference and the wait time (took 2 months for these)

Nice grip and hockey equipment lugger. Time for a name change to IPv3Threely

  11. Approx 50 hours later...

-Boot has loosened up at the top, easier to tie the laces
-Skate loosens up during a game, maybe time to swap back to waxed laces
-A little heel lift coming back on the right side, maybe I need to go back to the True soles instead of the superfeet for more volume
-I used to get a suction type sound when removing the skate after games, that's gone
-My reinforced tongues aren't as stiff (good thing) but one of them ripped already

All in all, pretty good. Really comfortable. Will update at end of the season.

Just make sure everything is prepped by you before they go in the oven or the if it preparation is done by someone else, check it over so you don't encounter any issues during baking. Specifically make sure the laces are long enough, because True has shipped a few pairs with laces about a foot too short.

Yes check the laces. Oddly mind were way too long. I had to purchase 96s. Felt like mine came with 130s as they were obviously too long. I hope True can work on this QA issue.
