Yeah, you’ll want to order your same Bauer/CCM size which is likely 1/2 size larger than the TF9. I made the mistake going to same size in the Cat 9 as I had with the TF9 and they are way too snug. Half size up fit perfect

This is what I ordered. We shall see if it works. Worse case they just get returned. There’s some conflicting info and I’m wondering if you guys are both right. I’m guessing true may have the same last but at the same time maybe they added more padding to make it seem like it fits smaller then usual plus the toe cap is a little tighter.

  2. So after buying power foot inserts and the extra red food bed for my tf9’s I ve got them to a decent place fit wise. However with the cat9’s being on sale, I’m looking to test them out. Would it be fair to say they are a slightly narrower, lower volume skate compared to the tf9.

Also if I’m a size 7 tf9 should I shoot for 7.5? Can’t try them in locally. I have tried on 7.5 hzrdus’ which seemed like it could work but I remember my tf9 pre bake was almost impossible to get on and that wasn’t quite the case with hzrdus.

(p.s for what it’s worth. I went down 3.5 sizes to get a tf9 that fit right and any other skate I’ve tried on never dropped below an 8 hence why idk where I land on the cat’s

They make Bladetech for the Shift holder. IMO, their steel isn't impressive (quality is good but the "flex" is nonsense)

but hey, to each their own.

Actually prefer stock steel. Fwiw my pair of blade techs seem to get nicked way to easily therefore ruining the edge

I have lowered the tongue. It goes almost to the end of my toes. This definitely helps but it still feels roomy.

The first time I baked them I did the wrap, the second time I cranked the skates tight with the laces as per guidance from the shop I bought them from.

btw thanks for the input guys. Like I said I’m so far a little disappointed with how custom skates are fitting.

I was in this same situation. I made sure my second bake that the Saran Wrap wasn’t just around the top 3 eyelets but also down to the fore foot as much as possible. I also had to get powerfoot inserts to really take up the space in the toe cap.

Also sounds like maybe your best off trying the catalyst skates. They seem to have more padding in the ankle area so it takes up more space. It sounds like the skate I’ve been looking for since the my makos crapped out.

I just got the TF9 roller skates and I noticed that the holes for venting on the bottom of the boots have not been drilled.

I was thinking of drilling the holes myself and was wondering if anyone has done the same or have any experiences with this.  Any tips and tricks to doing it properly?  Will the way I drill the holes affect the integrity of  the boot at all?

I believe this is intentional. Idk how common it is but the sweat could fall through the holes and onto the wheels and that’s never fun

  6.  Has anyone noticed that the steel in the shift holders sits more towards the heel or is that me. I have a set of the og steel and blade tech steel and both seem ever so slight set back from where they should be in the holder. This holder in particular actually has some front to back play if I pinch the steel and really try and work it front to back.

You may be able to tell in the photos but the plastic in the heel of the holder is actually being chipped away. Also yes it’s the proper length steel and It’s properly seated in the front.

  7. I finally replaced my old street hockey shin guards(koho 3330) that I’ve had for almost 20yrs with a set of ccm 9080’s. The kohos are essentially thick plastic with a foam and fabric liner so the shin guard would pretty much lie directly on my leg.

the 9080’s on the other hand feel like they are floating over my shin if that makes sense. Now it doesn’t affect my movement and when I play it doesn’t bother me too much but it’s noticeable and my socks are pretty much stretched to the max and it looks pretty strange. Is this just how modern shins fit and I’m overthinking it or do I have Ill fitting shins.

for reference I have decent sized calves but nothing extreme or out of the ordinary.

edit: I did test them at the store alongside the ft4  shins and they both felt fine in store but I also didn’t know what I was really looking for in terms of fit.

14 narrow. The trues were suggested to go down a size. I ordered the 14 anyway we’ll see how it goes

Well I was wrong. I tried on a pair of hg97 gloves in 13 and was way too small so I thought I’d be good. The ft1s came and they’re just slightly too long. I’ll give them a try and see how they go. Any ideas for taking up the little bit of space in the fingers

What width were your franchises? 14N and 13W franchises have the same length fingers. Lengthwise, I think if you fit 13s in anything than you will be 13s in CCM pro. But the ft1s are snug. But I think 14 will be long in the fingers

I am finding with the TF9 that even after dropping to a 6R from a 6.5D in Bauer Vapor 1X, they're still a half size too big. Has anyone else who uses the regular sizing found that they were a full size down from bauer/ccm in true?

I’m probably closer to an 8.5 or 8 In the 3x pro when I tried them on and I’m currently down to a 7 and maybe could’ve tried 6.5. After two bakes my twos don’t really touch the cap unless I try

Insert a pair of Powerfoot and problem solved. I use them and am a huge fan. We sell a ton of them in my store for players who want a more locked in forefoot feel.

    https://www.adrenalinedesign.ca/powerfoot/

Yes I have those it’s just been hard getting ice time to try them. I will say I don’t mind my toes having the volume I sort of like the ability to splay my toes like a running sneaker. It’s mainly just before the toes that’s the issue. I’ll have to adjust the tongue and add powerfoot.

The store I got them from said they will take them back used if I opt for customs so I guess I still have time. I’m leaning towards just going custom as mentally the idea that they’re “perfect” for me puts me at ease. Many people seem to say they barely need to tie their skates to feel secure and that’s what I had w/ makos. However it seems many people also end up having to add insoles or powerfoot to make their customs work and I don’t want to splurge on $1000 skates for the same experience I have with the tf9

Where is your tongue positioned? If they are stock height, lower them so they fill up more dead space. Mine are about 1/2 way into the toe box and I also made my version of powerfeet shims that pretty mich eliminate any toe wiggle for me.

You can use tensor wrap on the lower eyelets.

This is how I baked mine. GButbSl.jpeg

I had that sitting in my car when I baked them lmao what a dummy I am. Ya I have the power feet and I’ll have to give them a try. Do you cut them to where the tongue ends or do you just overlap them? My tongues are adjusted to where the end is above where my toe “knuckles” are for lack of a better term. Any lower and the tongue sits weird on the crook of my ankle.

Would a spot heat with a hair dryer on the forefoot work potentially to get the same affect. Not really trying to bake them a 3rd time.

  13. I’ve been littering the tf9/7 topic with my questions so let me ask a few here. I’m currently in true tf9’s coming from Easton makos. I’ve gone back for a second baking on the tf9 to get more heel lock with success.

However the forefoot area just seems like it has to much volume. Right around the 4th eyelet and into the toe box has a lot of volume(just top and bottom not width) so I can raise the ball of my foot off the insole. Is this something that would be corrected in customs or is that the design of the toe box and I just need to get used to it.

my makos I pretty much just pulled those eyelets so there’s no slack and didn’t need to tighten them where as the tf9 I’m cranking them down. And yes I’ve adjusted the tongue but then it sits weird on the rest of my foot

  14. So second bake worked for heel lock it seems from just sitting in my apartment. I tried flexing my foot walking around and they barely moved if at all (although now my toes do not touch unless I reach for the cap.)

Kinda wish they could use the Saran Wrap on the bottom of the boot from like the 4th lowest eyelet down as my I can lift the balls of my feet off the insole slightly. It almost fits like running shoes where  my toes can splay and move freely. Idk if this is good or bad honestly as the heel is locked but something to note.

As an update to my tf9 fitting scenarios, here's where I'm currently at now again.

Coming from super tacks 7.5D most recently, and have had 7.5D mako 2s in the past.

First tried the 7.0R TF9s. Fit felt great upon initial bake. Once on the ice, fit felt instantly sloppy and felt like I had Kleenex boxes for skates.

Went to the 6.5R.  originally thought there was no way I'd fit in them. They felt perfect out of the bake, and pretty good on the ice, but still felt like there was a touch of negative space around the forefoot, and being fully tied in and equipment on, felt like I still had room on the length. Overall, still a big difference over the 7.0s.

A couple skates with those on the ice and I was still convinced I should at least try 1 smaller just to rule it out.  Grabbed a pair of the 6.0R TF9s yesterday and baked em up.  Following the instructions and leaving the top couple eyelets unlaced, they felt too small upon baking, however I knew this story, I knew that they would give me more length once cooled and fully laced.  As I sit here now with them on and fully laced and sitting, the length is good, maybe a hair too small.  Standing up, I'm definitely into the top cap a little too much, however when knees bent and over the toes in skating position, toes pull back and I would describe it as "perfect" fit.  The forefoot negative space feels better in the 6 than the 6.5 and I like the hug everywhere else in the boot, I've just had such a hard time deciding on the perfect length.  I'm leaning towards staying on the 6 now just because I know the foams should break in even more and give even slightly more length.

Should I give any thought as to the too small  fit standing up straight? Or only just trust that the fit is good on skating position? And is there any worry that I'm way off the end of the footbed?

I do think these skates are just naturally big in the forefoot. I’ve had this same issue. Im beginning to wonder why they didn’t just start with a narrower last if the boot is that moldable. The toe box also just comes up so high and has so much volume it just feels strange so maybe that’s what I’m feeling

Ive also not been able to figure out if it’s something that’d be fixed with customs as it seems like the toe box is the problem area and from what I’ve heard they don’t change that at all.

Searching for skates is not fun. If anyone has a suggestion for someone who needs a vapor fit w/ more volume and slightly wider toe box let me know

True skates can handle multiple bakes better than most skates. I don't know why Pure is telling you not to bake them a second time. I would just bake them and make sure to use the wrap like Scott Van Horne demonstrates in the video.

Sorry they’re saying not to do full 10 minute bake but I’ll push it next time I get in. Also does it matter if the oven is preheated or no because they’re so small?

If you didn't wrap it during the baking this should be done. Kick back into heel and the Saran wrap locks it in there also making sure the the eyelet facings are tight up against the tongue and ensuring your ankle and heel stay in this spot until it cools.

I did but in hindsight the wrap was more around the upper three eyelets where in the video it goes around the heel. Am I good to do a full bake again pure hockey is telling me no

It sounds like 4 would be the right length after baking with the luggage wrap and break in.

With the TF9s, I find I have excellent heel lock, but really kicked my heel back and then used the luggage wrap after taking them out of the oven. The only issue I had was some tightness at the widest part of my forefoot, but a second bake and break in helped with that.

Was there anything you did specifically during the bake to achieve this. While the length is perfect for me, I’ve found that my foot still feels loose in this area(and kind of overall.)

On top of that I notice I have decent heel lift when walking around in them. I don’t notice on ice but I’m kind of pre occupied. I skate around fine in them but i pretty much never had a proper fitting skate until now so I don’t know if I’m just accepting the feel or if these are just different. I’ve had no pain whatsoever but they just feel not as tight. Maybe a tongue replacement?

p.s just got off the phone with pure hockey who advised not to bake them again and only maybe spot heat the heel or at most 4 minutes in the oven. Is that really enough to do anything?
