About Me
What to write, what to write......
I started learning how to inline skate in September 2008. Previous skating experiance is limited to 1/2 a dozen ice skating sessions for friends birthday parties as a kid.
I started learning to play hockey in November 2008. My skating (or lack there of) is the biggest problem. I concentrate on what my feet are doing a lot more than what my hands are doing.
Learning how to skate as an adult is hard. I wish I learned how to do it as a kid.
Its June 2009 now and Ive started to out grow the beginners clinics. Time to beg my way into the advanced Jr classes. Im too old to play games with them, but at least the drills will give me a run for my money.
Oh, and Ive been learning to ice skate. Hire skates suck. (gave up after one term, I just wasnt getting anywhere with hire skates and couldnt find ice skates that fit)
In August 2009, I started to play pickup.... im managed to graduate from hopeless to useless, next step ... sucking <img src="http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> One of these days ill learn to pass and recieve with adults whilst moving .. not even worrying about shooting yet
March 2010 marks my first year in the monday night (mixed adults, all skill lavels) league. My first game went well. I just kept it simple, break up 2:1, 1:1 and keep the slot clear. All pucks get dumped up the boards. Things fall apart when I get too adventurous, so Ill leave the puck to the other three guys on my team.
A couple games later, and Im not doing so well, when people start moving around more, its not so easy. Im not one for the puck, but finding the fine line of how far to challange isnt the easiest thing.
Its June 2010 and I now own ice skates and have some inline skates that dont hurt my feet (converted graf 707). The monday night league is winding up, still have no puck skills, but Im improving and actually venture past the centre line these days. Need to work on getting low when pushing and shoving infront the net so I dont get called for interferance or worse.
Hockey is definately a case of information overload... will get there. Just have to work harder
