Cracked sole in skates

Recommended Posts

While getting some rivets fixed on my skates, I found out that the soles of my skates are badly cracked. It doesn't look like it has gotten through to the composite.

Is there anything that can be done or am I now shopping for a new pair of skates?

you're probably good for a while. Skates can go years with cracks before serious problems occur. "Actual milage may vary"

you should be fine for a while. you might as well just skate on them until they start to affect your performance.

BTW- what kind of skates do you have ?

These are Pro Stock Bauer 7000. They were designed for Eric Lindros. They come with a custom tounge. He had to give them up cause they had to move him into a Vapour skate.

I skate about 4-5 times a week so they get their fair share of abuse. I started breaking in a pair of Vapour 10 pro stock (older version, not vapour x) but they aren't as good as the 7Ks

Previous to this, I had CCM 1052 and CCM 1152 which lasted about 6-9 months each before breaking down.

They even have his name and number stitched into the skate itself. By far the best skate I have ever owned. I have had to replace 3 blades and about 30 rivets (I now have 6 coppers per skate.

I had this same problem on my old 652s. Here is what I did. I got some 2 part epoxy and filled in the crack with my finger and made it smooth like the rest of the sole. Let it dry and cure for 2-3 days and you should be good to go. I went half a season before I got my Vectors. Not due to this problem though. Pics would be nice though.

My skates are in my locker at the rink so I will take a pic of them later today if I remember.

I am 6'2" 220lbs for those asking about size.

Very nice skates! As for the crack on the sole, it's never happened to me nor have I seen a case like that. I'd like to give you advice but I don't want to lead you into the wrong direction. But if you find something like your toe cap has been cracked, then definately discontinue using the skates and get new ones.
