No, some software was attemted to be developed to allow this some time back but limitations of the PS2 determined this was not possible.

I think its a hardware problem... you could just go buy a cheap dvd player, a lot play vcd's...

Yes I see one right now from Best Buy for $39. There is not point destroying your PlayStation 2 with a modchip, but the cheap player.

You just have to mod the PS2 with a Mod chip and then you are able to watch everykind of cd/dvd.

Its just a bit expensive but it is worth the money, if you need it.

Im personally not a console gamer but if you are, go for it.

While searching on google I found a thread on another forum that lasted 3 years and still no matter what, mod chip, decoding the vcd file nothing has worked. Just to conclude what I have found, ps2 only plays Mpeg 2 files and Vcds are Mpeg 1 so no you cannot play vcds so another words ps2 only plays DVDS.
