Can you trade your Crosby ball?

Recommended Posts

The question is very simple, can a team trade there crosby ball??

Exemple: St.Louis trades there one and only crosby ball(draft ball whatever u wanna call it) to the Rangers for _____________ (fill in in the blank with a ranger players name). so now for the first round NYR has 4 chances at crosby but meanwhile St.louis has no crosby ball.

I have no clue, but I highly doubt it. The formula would go to hell if they allowed that and it just wouldn't be logistical.

And I dont see why teams would give up players for a chance at one player cause it is no guarantee and after Crosby the talent really drops off so if you dont get the top pick you give up a proven player for a prospect and I dont see the value in that.

I don't think you can trade the actual lotto ball, but I suppose once the draft order is set, the Team at #1 would be free to entertain offers from teams wanting to trade up to #1.

Although I don't know why you'd want to.

If you could get another Lindros/Quebec deal, it might be pretty tempting.

Considering all the talk on other boards about Crosby's commercial sponsors and their desire to have him in a major market, I wouldn't be surprised if a small market team is pushed (or enticed) to trade their #1 pick to a major market team or trade him after the pick.

Something similar happened when Kobe Bryant was drafted by Charlotte and then traded to L.A. Anyone have any thoughts about this? Maybe I am wrong, but something to think about.

That could happen, it'll depend where he goes and what the offers are. I figure he'll be in Montreal within 7 years anyways.

Does anyone know exactly how the lotto will work? I kind of assumed the lotto would determine the entire draft order, not just who gets to go first.

So, when the Minnesota Wild's ball gets picked first, they would keep drawing for 2,3,4,5, etc. If another Minnesota ball came up they would just discard it and keep picking until every team has a place to pick.

I would think then at that point teams could trade positions.

Why do you figure that?

Crosby is a Montreal fan...and when asked "Where do you want to play" he said he'd gladly go wherever he is drafted, but if he had a choice he would love to play for Montreal. Gainey is a smart guy. As soon as Crosby is available he'll get him.

No way, He had no choice to say that he would love to play in montreal because he played here. If he had played in Calgary, and someone would say where do you want to play, he would have said : It would be great to play here etc etc because he has no other choice than to tell he likes the city where he plays.

I didn't realize that they were going to work backwards from 30 either. So Pick 8 is looking pretty bad if there is only 7 above average guys in the draft.

This is a deep draft for North American players, not so much for Russians as it usually is. Personally I think that the Swedish and Finnish have the deepest draft pool other than Canada/US. After pick 10 you are still looking at some very solid players, and there will be players slipping out of the top 10/20 due to sleeper picks so I think that teams will be in good hands even if they are picking from 20-30.

After the 7, there is a drop-off, just like theres a drop-off after number 1. I do think its a good, deep draft, but I still only see the 1 potential "star", but hopefully alot of steady, good NHLers. 10-30 looks like it could be a bit of a jumble. Theres alot of good hockey players, but their isn;t alot of consistancy in the rankings. Guys like Parent and Stall can go from 8-25, could make for an interesting draft. I hate the idea of this snake draft. Doesn't do a whole lot. If they wanted to even it out they should stay at the back end a bit more. Say 1-30, 30-1, 30-1, 30-1, 1-30, 30-1, etc..

I'd say Johnson will be a #1 star d-man along with Staal who I really like. Not as high on Pouliot just because of my limited viewings and then you have guys like Brule, Bourret, Kopitar, Skille, etc etc who all have unreal talent but have big question marks. I can see at least 5 or 6 stars coming out of this draft. The problem with it is that the difference in talent between Crosby and the #2 is so huge that it seems mediocre, which it isn't.

I can see alot of impact guys coming in the 2-7, but not "stars." From my limited viewings, I see Johnson becoming a Schneider, Poulior becoming a Murray, Brule becoming Peca, Ryan becoming similar to Battaglia with a bit more offensive upside. I haven't seen alot of them play, but thats how I'd place them from my viewings. No Sakics, Sundins or anyone, except for Crosby, but definately some guys you can really count on. I still think Parent will be better than Staal.

I wish I saw more of these guys. I still find it hard to have Pouliot as #3 having played 1 OHL season and scoring a PPG.

Bourret is not impressing in any way other then to hit hard, but in the NHL, he will find his man. He is overated IMO.

From what I hear, the d-man johnson will be much more intense then a Schneider.

I've heard that as well, and I can see him being more physical, I was going to add it into my post.

Bourret from this year..those are some really solid numbers for someone who does everything else right, aside from taking lots of stupid penalties.

As for Brule, hopefully he turns out like a Deadmarsh type player minus the injuries, a fan favorite type player as well. Always willing to stand up for his players and not shy to drop the gloves either.

His dad was drafted by the Habs as well. I'm saying within the next 10 years, they have Crosby and Lecavalier.

Hopefully.

6 times this year, I am sure you have seen him lots more than I have but the viewings that I have seen him in suggest that he is a top notch player. Regardless I liked what I saw and you think he's overrated..but it's hard for a 5'9 player to make the nhl his home and hopefully he pulls through.
