fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Hey guys, am finally getting to go on a trip to the US (last time was about 20years ago). Company i work for is sending me there for a week long seminar in Peoria, just a few hours south of Chicago.Besides the work, i intend to extend my stay by a few days, so that i can get some hockey shopping done. Anyone with any stores that they normally frequent in Chicago? How long should i extend the stay for... just for info's sake, i live in Singapore, and getting to the US is gonna take about 26 hours (till i finally get to Peoria). Roach 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 I normally go to Jerry's hockey shop in Schaumburg, Illinois. It's in a suburb close to Chicago. I don't know how far that is from Peoria as I live in the Philippines. Do you play ice or inline?Whatever I can't get in Jerry's, I order through the internet. Based on experience, it would be better to go to an actual hockey shop to look and try equipment on and out and then to order online as websites don't charge you the extra tax that a hockey shop would. You can try any of the following websites.http://www.hockeymonkey.comhttp://www.hockeygiant.comhttp://www.epuck.comhttp://www.1800faceoff.comhttp://www.icewarehouse.comhttp://www.inlinewarehouse.comhttp://www.discounthockey.comhttp://www.greatskate.comBefore making any online orders, check the billing parameters. There are some websites that require the credit card billing address to be the same as the delivery address. Last time I ordered was 3 years ago when I flew in from Manila.I hope this helps.Good luck and enjoy with the shopping!
whbd18 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 I think there is a store named Gunzo's(or something like that) in Chicago.I heard they are very well stocked, maybe someone else who lives near there could tell you more.heres a link to sporting goods shops in Chicago.http://smartpages.com/directory/search.jht...yPostalFlag=DVD
JGraz15 53 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Yeah, Gunzo's and Jerry's Hockey Outlet have the best selections.http://www.gunzos.com/Jerry's you have to google. There is one north near Schaumburg and one way south.
napsy 1 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 If you're coming all the way to Chicago from Peoria, I'd check out Jerry's Hockey Warehouse - they have a couple around the suburbs. Gunzo's is near the west side of the city and while they have a lot of gear, they're *really* overpriced. If you go to downtown Chicago, you can check out Hawkquarters which is the Blackhawks' shop. They have pro stock sticks and some used pro equipment; prices aren't too bad, although some of the skates and gloves they sell are pretty beat up.
hocckey77 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Gunzo's is good. So is Jerry's, as I have bought a pair of skates from each. Depends where you are in the city and how far you wanna drive. Both stores have other locations though.Peoria is very boring.Roach, are you Filipino or just live there? Do you live in Manila?

I normally fly out once a year to relatives in Chicago. How about you hocckey77 - where are you from? And do you play ice or inline or both?By the way, I heard Gunzo's was more expensive than Jerry's. I've never been there though. I love going to Jerry's in Schaumburg! I stay there for several hours going over everything as there are no hockey shops here in the Philippines.

Guys, sorry if this isn't part of the thread - fatwabbit, what team do you play on? Do you play with Albert Tan and company? I'm flying in August 20 and 21 for the Mission launch. I hope to catch up with you and play a few games then.
fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 Albert Tan and company - played with them and against them a couple of times, and i will reserve my opinion of them since i dont make it a habit to slam others in front of people i dont know very well.anyway, i play on a team called Cyclones... been around for about 10-11years... we all stopped playing competitively for a few years, mainly play pickup these days. If you are in town, we usually play at 8am on Sunday mornings, PM me before you come and i;ll send you my mobile number. Usually we get a good crowd of about 10 players, maybe 12 sometimes... we've got a pretty good mix of people as well: stock analyst, IT engineers, caterer, regional marketing rep, and even a doctor.most of us are pretty ok, we've gone past the phase of wanting to 'better ourselves' and just play for the hell of it...
