Power Patch. Has anyone ever tried it ?

Recommended Posts

these have been out for a while and IMO they are junk, a kid on my team used to use them and they would tear easily and this was in peewees. If you play at any level above that I wouldn't advise using these.

They arent good for durabilty themselves, but they also reduce the durabilty of your blade, because the bottom of your blade now has no protection when using one of these. IMO its a waste of money. why not buy a roll of tape for the same price, and using it over and over for lots of things, instead of one of those

I used a similar product on my stick. The front piece came off the first day, whereas the back piece has lasted five months easily.

One of the design challenges they have is they require you to sand down your blade to create a sticky surface for the patch to adhere to. I thought I had done a good enough job sanding without wearing away the blade, but I apparently only did a good enough job on the back. Or, maybe the inner curve is more difficult to adhere to than the outer curve.

Maybe if thei'r adhesive was stronger they would work better, but I only tried one brand and I've now seen two others, including the patch you've shown. The concept is great, but the application may need improvement.

Salming, are you talking about the Blade Shark?

Yes. The guy gave me a pair to try at the Vegas show. I liked the concept and put them on my stick but, as I said, the front side came off during the first skate.

Either I didn't sand well enough or they need to use a stronger adhesive.

lol....those look pretty self-made to me....

I remember there has been a Bauer product a couple years back that had the same purpose but was off a different material. I think it was discontinued pretty quickly, though. Looks like a waste of money to me.

Tape doesn't increase durability when it is on the bottom of the blade. Its about 1mm thick. When you take 1ft of ice and weigh 205 thats when your blade is going to be feeling it, not when it is being 'protected' by a tiny layer of tape.

im not saying that at all, im saying that your blade is less likley to accumulate scratches and nicks on the bottom that will quickly lead to internal damage. but no , tape will not do anything when it comes to shooting and durability
