Goalie Pants Question

Recommended Posts

hi, first post in goalie forums

my brother is getting a custom set of RBK equipment (pads, catcher and blocker) but he also needs to get all of the other stuff which he wants to choose different brands.

He says the Vaughn Epic pads are supposedly one of the best if not the best in Goalie Pants because they are flat and good for Butterfly style. He's read reviews on the Epics but he hasn't read/heard anything about the RBKs.

So, for a butterfly goalie, what would you say is a better choice, RBK Pants or Vaughn Epics?

Thanks

I use the RBK's. Best GP I have ever had. They are very square cut and flat faced. Unlike other pantss, they do not "funnel" the puck into the net. The 5-hole is closed solid and if the puck ihits between the legs it basically drops straight down. If the puck hits on the outside, the puck does not deflect into the net. These pants are like a wall. As for comfort, awesome, Protection, awesome. Price awesome. Highly recommended. Great for B-fly. My old TPS pants funneled the puck right into the net. I love the RBK pants. I've also sold 4 or 5 to tother customers who love them. No complaints so far.

thanks i'll have to let him know,

so how would you say it stacks up compared to the Vaughn Epic?

Better? Same?

or is it just one of those things where it's tossed off between Personal Preference, because i'm sure he'd like to go for RBK to match his padset, but he also thinks the Epics would be awesome.

Thanks again

I haven't seen the Epic yet so can't comment on that. Generally, I don't like Vaughn pants but the epic design may be improved.

Does anyone in here who has the new RBK pads know if they have that thick elastic strap at the knee that most pads seem to have today. Just curious I would really like to get a pair

The epics are by far the best choice. First off they are made by Vaughn, a leading manufacturer of goalie equipment. They have a flat thigh pad. When standing up straight it is basically a continuation of the pad, that is how wide the thigh is. The protection on the pant is unsurpassed by any other company. I say go with the vaughn, the only other pant that comes close quality wise are the pants made by Brown. And they do have a b-fly version pant that is very nice...its what I use and have used for 2 seasons with absolutely no rips or tears or breaking down of any kind.

Yes, they have the elastic strap behind your knee that helps you keep it on the knee lifts. The RBK pad is very nice. Basically its a Koho 590, only with a flat face and a bit of a thinner profile. Very nice pad.

My buddy just got the Itech 11.8's......those things are absurd.

is the absurd thing positive or negative?

Heh, I dunno, I have to try them out for a game. They basically look like the equivalent of wearing a cardboard box for pants since they're so square in the legs.
