Mission M-1

Just bought my M-1 and upon bringing it home I proceeded to cut it to the right length. (SR 85) I removed the endplug and to my surprize found a piece of foam their on the bottom of the end plug. What is that for? I'm assuming something to cut down vibration and enhance feel?
