Mission VS Easton Question

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i need your opinions on something....

I'm about to make the switch from Easton sticks to Mission sticks - i have reasons, don't try to convince me otherwise.

My questions is this...my ideal easton curve was the Shannahan...I'm a big defensive player and really liked that curve. The Lidstrom has worked for me, but my stickhandling is nowhere near as good. So Shanny is it.....i'm going to be getting a new Mission stick, and am wondering what he closest curve is to the Easton Shanny. Cole? Carter maybe? It's hard to tell with the online blade charts...so i thought i'd ask the experts.

Also....i've been using a 110 flex easton, and i think it's actually too stiff for me...so i would want to go down to a 100 flex. What is the closest to a 100 flex on the mission scale. I know that 100 is they're stiffest shaft, but how does it compare to the Easton line.

Thanks

I'm not sure if Mission has an exact Shanny clone nowadays. I think the Cole would be the closest, but I think that is more like the Lidstrom. I haven't seen it in some time, so I could be wrong. How about the Maccauley (sp?) curve? Anyone know what that looks like? I beleive the Carter was a Drury clone.

I had a Mission 85 flex M2, and have tried friends' M1s. I find the Mission and Easton stiffness ratings to be pretty close. Maybe Mission is slightly more whippier, but not by much.

What stick are you looking to get? The new Hex one looks and feels very well done. I love the new shaft shape. I would love for Mission to make that Hex1 into a Hex2. For now, I just gotta wait to get some more cash so I can pick up an L2 from Chadd. If it's anything like my M2 I will be very pleased.

Cole is the shanny clone but it doesn't come on the Hex, L2 or Z1. I've only seen it on the M1 and you might be able to get one cheap since they're being discontinued.

Just to add my 2 cents in....I use both mission and easton sticks. I used to only use easton, but switched to Mission at first out of convenience. My first mission was a hull M-1. I didnt realy like the M-1 that much, but I decided to give the L-2 a try. I absolutely love it. My L-2 feels just like my SL (albeit a tad bit heavier) but I feel it has a better balance to it, so you dont notice the weight. I dont feel any drawbacks of using a 2 piece. Go with the l-2 and buy a synthesis shanny if you are that dead set on that pattern. As for the flex I use easton 100 and mission 100 and I dont feel that much of oa difference. If anything the mission has a tiny bit more whip to it. Hopefully I helped a bit...good luck.

This is a huge help actually. Looks like 100 flex is defintley what i want to go with then. I was worried about it being too stiff, because the easton 110 defintiely is, so i'm psyched about that.

I'll defintiely be picking up the L2. I like th Hex 1 a lot, and have had a chance to play around with a teammates, but i've always been a big propoent of 2 piece sticks....don't know why, maybe i'm just old fashioned.

I'm not dead set on the Shanny pattern, it was just my favorute easton....what do you guys think of hte Ribiero pattern? I'm basically looking for a longer blade that doesn't open up as much as the Lidstrom does. ALthough i can use the lidstrom, it isn't ideal.

I didn't know i couldn't get the Cole on the L2 - that's too bad. What i would hope, is that they will soon come out with HEX replacement blades for the L2. Then you don't need to change shafts to the Hex, but can benefit from the honeycome stiffness in the blade.

I've been using a Ribeiro Hex and it's not a super stiff blade. It is a nice heel curve but it does not play like a 5 lie at all, it's much more like a 5.5 lie.

Really, that surprises me...i would have thought it would be very stiff....I guess maybe the Honeycomb helps more with feel than structure....interesting.

Do you like the Ribiero?

I love the curve but the lie makes it hard for me to use. Looks like I'll be ordering more custom woodies. I believe the Hex reinforcement is more for durability than stiffness or feel.

You could always pair the L-2 shaft with a Synthesis blade or even have Customs or another clone of it.

This may be what i do in the long run, but for now, i'm getting a deal on the L2 and two blade combo, so i might as well make the best use of them that i can.

We'll see if i like them, if not, maybe i'll sell the blades or trade them for the synthesis.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Where do people go about ordering custom curves, and how much does it cost?

Has anyone used a Gear Bozek blade? I use the Shanny pattern too, but they're getting hard to find.

I bought 2 of them for the hell of it when I was ordering wheels, but have only had a chance to use 'em a couple times. I used one for ice with an ultralite shaft at drop in and thought it worked pretty good. I used the other for indoor roller with an inoo-fedorov shaft. The blade is really, really thin...especially on the top. Also, the hosel seems to be really short compared to every easton blade I've ever used. I like the curve, but it seems a little more open towards the toe than the shanny.

I might be able to get a pic with my brothers camera if you wanna see what I'm talking about, but I can't make any guarantees ;)

Nah ... thanks, but not necessary. I may pick one up just for curiosity. They have them on sale at HockeyGiant sometimes. I've got a good supply of Shannys right now (two on sticks plus three in reserve) but I need to have a backup plan :)
