need a good pair of running shoes

Recommended Posts

Running shoes don't have good lateral support, meaning you don't want to play basketball or tennis (or whatever) in them. You will roll your ankle. Running shoes are made to effectively transfer weight from your heel and through to pushing off from your toes. Basketball shoes and etc. do not do that as well.

Asics, to me, has always made the best running shoes. And, if you go to their website, they break down the type of shoe for certain types of feet. So if you're flat footed or have pronated feet, nuetral or underpronated feet, they make different shoe styles to fit your foot. That fact alone, is about as custom as you can get without actually getting custom shoes. The other companies may do that, too, but I've never seen where those companies actually inform the buyer which shoe is best designed for which style of foot.

ive always gone with addidas, they fit my foot best in everything from running to training to baseball and basketball. I dont know if this will help but i fit good in bauer skates so if you do then addidas shoes might fit you too.

Get running shoes designed for your foot biomechanics and gait (overpronation, underpronation, normal pronation) and do some research on particular models suited to your needs. A professional running retailier, like the Running Room will be far better than most of the jackasses that work at SportChek and know nothing.

Tell your mom that you need to spend at least $80-85 on a good pair of running shoes, your joints will thank you, and you can say goodbye to foot pain, if you are fitted correctly.

With regards to brand, I wouldn't say that any is better than another, but I generally think that Asics, Mizuno, Saucony and New Balance make high quality running shoes. Of course, Nike and Adidas also make some quality shoes, but in any event, do your research and go with what feels right - not what looks good.

I'd just like to say about the Shox :45, I have a pair, and I believe that they are just normal cross-trainers marketed as being hockey specific. If you look on niketown, you can see that they don't push 'em as hockey shoes. C'mon, there's no such thing as a hockey specific training shoe - if there was, they'd have blades on them, and those, we call "skates."

However, I do like my :45s a lot. They are great shoes, and the ventiliation is ace.

A note on Free 5.0: I love them, but I wouldn't run long distances in them.

I'll give a 4th shout out to the Nike Free's.

They are awesome. These shoes got me to start running again.

The one's with the velcro strap are cross-trainers, the ones without are pure running shoes. Get the running shoes.

Light as heck. Comfortable. And if you believe their marketing, running in them will make your foot muscles stronger.

I hate wearing shoes and I absolutely love these.

My only word of caution is to keep in mind that these are running shoes not wearing while hanging out with friends shoes. They make my feet sweat like crazy. It's not noticable when you are running. But I made the mistake of wearing them to work once. About 3 hours in I had to peel them off. You could smell the heat...
