MA Fleury for Lalime?

Recommended Posts

Who did they trade up to avoid in the draft to get MAF? Staal and Horton right? If this goes through, I will have lost all respect for the Pens.

They traded Mikael Samuelson (sp?), the guy who is now in Detroit using the Salming gear, and their first round pick (#3?) to move up to the number one spot. Then again my mind could be going and I could be wrong.

The first round of that draft is already looking like one of the best in a long time. Patrice Bergeron in the second round, Pirnes in the 6th(LA), and the Pens got Chiodo(goalie) even later and he's already played 8 games in the NHL.

you're correct chadd, but I think a condition on the trade was that they wouldn't select horton.

Actually, I think they weren't expecting the TF Evolution to be such a great stick -- it's making the trade look lopsided now.... ;)

I take your guys words seriously since you get to see him play.  But at what?  21?...He still has a few years to correct any flaws.

Indeed he does and he could of course prove me wrong. Still, I just get the "feel" that he is not a 'winner'. I get the feel that while he is technically very good and all that, he is missing some of the intangible factor that will keep him from being a superstar. I have yet to see him STEAL a game.

How about this? What if he just cannot shake the stigma of being a number one pick? Alex Daigle comes to mind.....

Still, he is a kid and has a lot of years to get better. We shall see. But if I were a GM, he would NOT be my "franchise player".

The problem is, Lalime is 10 years older, and most feel has the same problems as MAF. Now do you take the chance on a 31 year old or a 21 year old? No matter what they believe, with Malkin, Crosby, Whitney and others, it is pointless to trade away someone with Fleury's potential to match up. They have already traded for T-Bo, so what does Lalime add? I doubt this goes through, it's an Eklund rumour.

Apparently there was something lost in the translation of the french article...this was not to be a "straight up" trade...it was MAF for Lalime(oops.. ) and one or two other defencemen. (anciennement de Montreal)

I will go to pitt and slap somebody if they trade MAF, they need to unload t-bo and his 2.4 million dollar salary so that way they can make room for MAF, I don't know why they signed t-bo, the GM is probaly kicking him self in the balls for that one.

Pittsburgh won't take on the salary unless they can move some other players. They have to be under $30.5M to get the revenue sharing money.

You really think it was his choice? It's not like they gave up anything to get T-bo, so they don't have to get much back in exchange.

Lalime is getting brutalized here in St. Louis night after night. I think the Blues organization has called this season a wash and are looking to the future with Fleury.

Keith "Stay Puft" Tkachuk was on the radio a few days ago ripping the Blues organization. Basically saying that nobody cares from the top management to the trainers to the doctors to some of the players. I'm not much of a Tkachuk fan so I'm biased but take that statement for what it's worth. Part of the reason for this season's lack of focus is the ownership issues....but with that being said the players still need to look past that. I'm OK with undergoing a season as a cellar-dweller to build for the future.

Having watched MAF play at least 4 times in the last 2 seasons with WB...I often get the impression that he is playing more to show his own skills, than for the team....he gives the impression of being pretty cocky, maybe too long watching Patrique.....Hopefully he will put down the mirror soon, and live up to his potential...no doubt he has skills.

And I think the trade discussion about MAF and one or two d'men, maybe has more or at least as much to do with the "d'men" than the goalie for the moment.

When you have a goalie that tends to give up a weak one from time to time, you shouldn't play a defensive game and try to win 1-0. Score a few the other way and one weak goal (or two) doesn't look as bad.
