Working In Pads

Recommended Posts

A few practices I would think. Of course even before a few practices I would suggest hitting them with a stick, sitting on them, strapping them down bending them. It doesnt take much but I wouldnt try to go RIGHT into a game with them they will be pretty stiff and boxy.

Velocity's are made game ready. There is no break in required and with these pads that is honestly the case.

The only thing you need to do is tie off your toe laces at a comfortable gap to give your skates freedom of movement and adjust your upper two straps to a location and tension you feel comfortable with them in. There is a good article about this right on the Vaughn web site. Vaughn strapping instructions.

Make sure you do this with your goalie pants and skates on... Enjoy your new Velo's.

Are these pads identical to what you are currently using? If not then you are going to need a little time to adjust to them before you are comfortable. Can't tell you how long that might take but the best idea is to use them in a few practices, at least, before jumping into a game with them. All pads require some break in time and velos are no different.

Oh and I wouldn't advise jumping on them, nor driving a bus over them.

Our goalie wore his new pads last game and it looked like they were too slippery, so they slided on the ice, which was risky. At least it looked pretty hilarious :)

If you played something similar to these before then go right into a game with them. Thats what i did when i got my first pair of velocities a couple years back...actually that was 4 years ago. The wear on them is insane, they have held up so well. Those pads underwent two high school season, a summer at HNIB, and two years of college club joke hockey...haha
