are reff's blind?

ok so last night i was watching the hurricanes vs san jose game on tv. i can't remember what period (2?) but San jose's goalie played the puck out of the trapizoid. then later on San jose's goalie again went to play the puck behind his net and cleared the puck around the boards and in the process hit Craig Adams in the nose and it did produce blood. but the thing is....neither of those were called by the reff. both were clear penaltys but the reffs decided to just pretend that they didn't see shit.

it seems like the reffs are like getting payed to fix the games.
