Naslund

Recommended Posts

I've got kind of a wierd question. I know that Naslund is known for his hands, but is he known for his speed? I've seen a couple of highlights where he looks like he's blowing by defenders, but I don't really get to see too many Vancouver games. Just an odd question I guess.

I try to watch as many Canucks game on the hockey package as I can. I wouldn't classify him as a pure speedster like Kovalchuk, Gaborik, Modo in his hay-day, but he's no slouch either.

I'd say he's a fine skater, good mix of speed and balance/agility. If he's got any problems, I wouldn't say they are in his skating.

I just saw that Forseberg/Naslund vid on hockeyvids.com again. I think he's got pretty decent speed from what I saw there, but god I love his wrister. He made Lalime look like a joke.

One night a month or so ago, they pointed out how often he shoots to stick side. Since then whenever I watch Nucks I zero in on where he aims. 100% of the time its stick side. Sometimes he goes high and sometimes he goes for the spot under the armpit! Plus, he goes stick side no matter where he is shooting from. The guy is fun to watch for pure hockey skills.

I'd like to see a shot chart for him, he always seems to be on his off wing.

Definitely! He creates great shooting angles for himself with those off wing wristers.

Nazzy doesn't have tremendous acceleration, it is good, but his top speed is excellent. I think the greatest skating ability he has are the moves and cuts he can make while at top speed. If you want to see a great example of this, watch him on a powerplay. Whereas most guys will be forced to dump and chase to gain possession, he wheels from our end and most of the time will just make some great cuts and moves to skate it in and never lose posession. I'll always remember this end to end rush he made against the Sens either in 03/04 I think it was...from behind our own net, around 5 sens and then crossbar and in from the left wing...that was just awesome.

Naslund is a good skater and a great skater with the puck. Everytime I see him, I like him more and more. Awesome hands too...

That's exactly right. Naslund is actually probably a better skater with a puck then without. He doesn't really have straight out speed but he has great quickness and agility.

Naslund is trying to dangle around players more than ever and he's finishing his checks this year. I'm guessing he's dangling cause he's trying to take advantage of the new rules. On thursday he hurt his groin so he couldn't skate properly against ottawa. And that game vs. Ottawa, that end to end rush is perfect

i love watching it and of course i'll never forget that time where he absolutely laid someone out open ice in Sweden over the lockout

Yeah i was about to say. Because of his groin problems he looks like he's having a hard time skating but boy does that guy know how to use his edges!
