what is lace bite?

Recommended Posts

i have a problem with my feet. i have been playing ice hockey for just over 6 yrs now. 2 yrs of roller hockey before that. i have worked my way up to an intermediate/B level and skate pretty well. i have heard of lace bite but never really knew what is was exactly. i wear graf 704. they are 5 years old. i split my laces because the tops of my feet are sensitive and it takes some pressure off that area where the laces move up the foot vertically.

my problem has me worried. out of nowhere, in the middle of a game, i get this really horrible pain across my lower shin where the laces are knotted. it first happened on my right foot and was so painful i couldnt skate. i alleviated the problem by tying my laces down one eyelet. that helped a lot and it eventually went away but there were two months of no hockey to help heal it. i dreaded getting back on the ice because i didnt want to have it re-occur. luckily, it didnt.

now, when i finally feel compfortable again, it returns. this time on my left foot. right where the knot is tied. i lowered the knot by one eyelet which helps. this causes more instability though. is this lace bite? is there anything i can do about it? thanks for the help.

The tongue has probably softened to the point where there isn't enough padding between the knot and your leg and the knot is now digging into you a little. You could try a piece of foam or something similar between the tongue of your skate and your leg and that should help the problem.

You were right in calling it Lace Bite , I have a lace bite pad that I bought a while back for the exact same problem. It really helped.

Where do you live , if ya want it , I will send it to ya ?

tried the clear clouds today. didnt really do much since the damage is done. the tendons are bruised and even minor stress hurts. maybe if i dont skate a for a while, then start new with the pads.
