t'blade questions

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about getting T-blades soon and I need some help. Can someone tell me what it means by the rocker size and how a small medium and large rocker work? Also, can somebody explain the hollow radius as well? And how would they be an improvement over my tuuks? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks alot

Heres a quote that most sites use:

The T-Blade is the newest technology in skating. The unique system is 30% lighter than any other blade system on the market. It consists mainly of a specially developed glass fibre resin. This resin is resistant against impact, is highly elastic, and resistant against cold temperatures to -30 celsius! The 1mm thin gliding surface is made of extremely hard, cold tempered special steel and weighs only 6 grams!

REASONS TO SWITCH TO T-BLADES:

30% lighter than any other blade system

40 % less gliding friction makes for a better, more consistant glide

Extremely narrow turns

Each blade lasts longer than conventional sharpening!

Same, consistant sharpening every time

Can be mounted on any conventional ice hockey skate

No need to sharpen blade, easily replaceable at home or in the dressing room, blades are disposable

No need to worry about poor sharpenings on the day of the big game

Average skater uses a Medium Rocker. For the hollows, 15 is the sharpest, 9 is the least. See www.t-blade.com for more information.

Rocker (aka. radius) refers to the big curvature of your skate blade (looking at the side). Smaller=easier to turn but less glide, larger=more glide but not as quick to turn.

Hollow refers to your edges. See this:

BTW The Search feature works wonders. ;)

Rocker is the length of the steel on the ice. The short rocker is equal to the radius of a Tuuk, the medium(prolite) has more steel on the ice and a large has even more steel on the ice. The longer the rocker(Mission), the more your weight is spread out, allowing you to skate faster in a straight line.

As for hollow, the larger the number the more shallow the hollow. The smaller hollows like 9 will dig deeper into the ice, making it easier to turn. The larger hollows won't sink into the ice as much allowing you to get more glide out of each stride.

If you can get good, consistant sharpenings from your local hockey shop or rink, I wouldn't bother with T'Blades. If you always have problems with the way you get your skates sharpened, then you might want to consider switching.
