i was wondering the same about the 5k

for 5K & 9K, I know a bit cause I tried both in my LHS.

5K- liner is not Clarino, Sole is not carbon fiber, Steel is not "light-weight", made in Thailand, softer, heavier. but mind you that it is still a very good skate when it is now selling for $230 online.

9K - Clarino, carbon fiber sole, light-weighted steel, made in Canada, super stiff, light and very very expensive.

I'm not sure where you got your info on the steel. perhaps one of the RBK lurkers can chime in. From my experience, the NEW mid-05 CCM/RBK steel is awesome, not just the perferated light steel but also the solid runners. It is tempered very hard for excellent edge retention, yet not brittle like the Bauer steel. In fact, I had to raise my prices for new steel sharpening (for skates not bought at my store), because this steel is so good it almost takes twice as long to sharpen.

Is the perf steel for CCM holding up better than the steel on the LS??? I've always been a solid steel guy, but will be picking up the 9ks pretty soon and I dont want to block and a shot and have to replace the runner...

The LS2 steel is way better than the LS steel, but IMO, the CCM steel is better than both. The newer CCM steel which came out only a few months ago is even better.

Recently sharpened a few scalloped/perf CCM runners. These things are solid. The best perf steel I've seen.

Well, good old CCM <_<

Yea, they changed runners mid-season without telling us why, but the new steel is super hard. I find it holds an edge very well and seems much more resistant to pitting.

i tried both of them on and there wasnt that big of a difference for the amount of price different i got my 5ks for like 250 and the 9ks were 500. I like the 5ks are very nice skates. alot better than my last bauer 6000s i just had.
