blackhawks4ever 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2004 These Greco-Roman wrestling matches that are becoming all too common in the NHL needs to stop. After the whistle, one guy grabs another guy, then there is the "face wash" with the smelly gloves, followed by multiple face washes and alot of pushing and shoving. ;) I suggest there be an automatic 2 minute penalty for "hands to the face" that would be implimented much like the "third man in" on a fight. This would eliminate alot of the jousting and posturing that occurs after the whistle and speed up the return to playing hockey. Your thoughts???
NCPUCK26 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2004 I personally think thats a really bad idea. Why do you want to take some of the physicallity and gritiness out of the game? What is a defensman going to do after someone was poking at his goalie? Make sure he doesn't want to come back around.
Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted May 14, 2004 I think thats a horrible idea too. We dont want hockey to turn into a sport like basketball where your not allowed to even touch or bump a guy. Geeze, if there was a hands to the face rule and no touch icing there goes some of the stuff that makes hockey, hockey. Also, I agree, you gotta have a way to defend your goalie. Make a hands to the face rule and the only way to defend them would to be something more drastic. I'd rather have some smelly gloves in my face for a few seconds then be cross checked in the face or back or something.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted May 14, 2004 I think the jousting infront is fine, just once punches are being thrown it should be an automatic two or more. Last nights Calgary game was bad for a few of these.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2004 Yeah, Scott Thornton was pounding that Calgary player, and there was no call. Those are the things that are unacceptable, but facewashing isn't a big deal, it's not hurting anyone, right?

Thornton did get a roughing penalty for his work on Chris Clark who got a bit too close to Nabby after the whistle.hockey39
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2004 Yeah, he did, but Clark shouldn't have gotten one, that was BS come on, then they let the trip on Conroy go. The officals were very inconsistant last night.

Agree on the trip on Conroy. IMO, I think the refs gave Clark a minor for somewhat instigating the whole incident. Watched the replay and Chris does make contact w/ Nabby after the whistle (looked like a skate to the mask) which resulted in Thornton coming in although Thornton could have easily received the extra penalty. It's the annual tuck the whistle in the pants for the refs during this time of the season.hockey39
redwater_12 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Realy when you think about it, BHforever makes sense, it is sometimes pretty chicken shit what happens in front of the net. And I think the refs let alot of it go uncalled. But also if that was called, i think the players would be alot more recless around the net because they know ther not gonna get smaked around after. kosydar 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 I just get pissed when guys like Maltby do it, but then won't fight. Its alright to do that if you're drawing a guy in, but don't do it then skate away.
blackhawks4ever 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Hey guys I like hockey as rough as it can get, but it pisses me of when I tie up my guy in front of the net and then some pin head (third guy in )comes up behind me ( Bertuzzi like) and grabs my face from behind. My two options are to live with it or spin aroung with an ebow to the head as a reply and risk getting 2 minutes. Its the same as a third guy in on a fight, it only causes thing to escalate. Then it takes 2-3 minutes for the tempers to settle down so we can get back to playing hockey. The reason I bring this up is that I have started to see this in my league. Obviously the less talanted players have seen this done in the pros and now are using it here. If you want to get physical, get physical but don't wait until after the whistle to sneek up behind someone and grab their face.
Bo from Boston 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 I think this crap is getting out of hand myself. It seems that a lot of things are permitted after the whistle and it should stop. The thing that pisses me off the most is that its now ok to slash or hit someone after they take a shot on net and the whistle has blown. I'm all for old time, hard hitting hockey, but if the goalie makes a save on your shot, the whistle has blown and your curling the net nowhere near him, you should NOT be fair game to be decked or slashed. As long as the ref's don't call this after the whistle crap, its going to go one and get worse.
