Orpicks hit on Erik Cole

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty pissed off that the league didn't suspend any Ottawa players in that Pitts game last night. Meszy went stright for Crosby's knee and it was dirty as hell. Chara got into a fight with Cairns over a spear (and it was suspended), but the Referee held Cairned and actually jerseyed him while Chara kicked his ass. Then Cairns comes back and they jump him. Chara's skate comes questionably high on the fall. That's garbage. Chara should've been suspended for his Hab fight as well.

I honestly don't understand why Hollweg would go out and do that. I love the guy and everything, but have some dignity and some respect for other players. That hit was in no way beneficial to him or the team. IMO he should be out for at least 10, that hit is worse than the Orpick from where I stand.

I have no great love for Ottawa, but show a little objectivity. I'll give you the Meszaros hit...it was definitely very low, and probably does deserve a review. As far as whether it deserves a suspension, I'm not qualified to pass judgement on that. I have, however, watched Meszaros play a lot of WHL games in Vancouver and he was never the type of player that went out head hunting or looking to hurt people. He always just played hard, clean hockey.

My real problem with your comments is over the Chara/Cairns incident. Cairns made an obvious attempt to spear Chara on the play and got the suspension he deserved. Why does Chara deserve to have disciplinary action come against him? He was pissed off over the spear, pretty understandable, so he got into a fight with a guy who is a fighter and beat him down. I don't quite get why that's suspension worthy. Yes, the ref got in the way and played a small role in the fight...but what does that have to do with Chara? You then say that Cairns comes back and the refs jump him...again, what does that have to do with Chara? Finally, as Cairns forces Chara to the ground you're upset his skate comes "questionably high" on the fall. Give me a break, you're grasping for anything here.

Most of the points you made didn't even involve Chara, and the ones that did were mindless. I'm not sure if you're anti-Ottawa, anti-Chara, or pro-Pens but you're certainly one if not all three.

I haven't seen Meszy throw a bad hit other than this. If you've seen the highlights, he chops him at the knees and was completely balanced.

As for Chara, he always gets away with crap. You do not punch when someone is being held. It's one thing if you jersey a guy, it's another when the referee has him jerseyed. It's not the first time he's shown improper etiquette in a fight. Think back to the Ivanas (sp?) fight. They both go down, he throws a shot after when the fights over and breaks the guys jaw. Ivanas is gone for a while Chara keeps on plugging. It goes against any code of ethics fighters have.

Most tough guys wouldn't have thrown while the referee was holding another guy. Watch the replay and you see his foot come up in the air. He uses it to swing Cairns over. Definately a stretch on my part, but something that I did notice.
